In Hawaii: What are the different seasons?
 

I am thinking of renting a condo on either Kauai or BI and I don't recall the different season changes in Hawaii.

Friends have recommended staying during the "lovely tradewind season" but are not specific about when that is.

One New Year's Eve many years ago we were nearly blown off our lanai on Kauai, was too much of a "lovely tradewind".

I don't want High Season if it is during the Summer. I was thinking of Fall, but what weather happens then?

There are two main seasons in Hawaii:

Season A = day time
Season B = night time

I think it depends on where on each island you want to stay. On the north shores of both Kauai and Oahu in winter the water is rough - great for surfing, not great for swimming. On the other hand, Poipu and Honolulu are just fine. High season is Easter, Christmas/New Years and summer because the kids are out of school. If your time is flexible it's best to go anywhere at shoulder season (i.e. just before or after high season) for best prices, best weather and fewer crowds.

Great tips, thanks. I think I will end up at Kanaola at Kona, so it should be warm in Sept/Oct.
