In general- best way to find cheap hotel rooms

I've used both yahoo travel and travelocity to make reservations. Is this the best way to find a cheap rate? What do you recommend?

We're going on a road trip through New England, so I need to make reservations a several different hotels.

I would recommend checking the prices on Hotwire and then bidding lower than their prices on Priceline.

Expedia.com or travelocity.com

I always check expedia.com, and THEN check the hotel's web site directly. Sometimes I've actually gotten a better deal (internet special) by booking directly with the hotel. And, sometimes it's better thru expedia.com.

I think that it's best to check all your options...travel sites, direct with the hotel, along with bidding. However, that all takes time and time is money, right?

Good luck.

If your road trip will take you through Boston, you can't go wrong bidding on a 3- or 4-star hotel in the Back Bay/Copley area.

You'll almost always get the absolute lowest price for a quality hotel by using the info on www.biddingfortravel.com and the bidding on priceline.

I've usually saved 25% or more off the lowest price I've found anywhere else on the web and usually 50-75% off what the hotel is quoting directly.

Good Luck.

Check as many places as you can. But remember that price should not be your only consideration. Don't use Priceline if you absolutely must stay at a certain hotel or if you think you may have to cancel your trip.

I got the cheapest rate the other night
by calling the reservations number for the Mirage in Vegas., i.e.,
the cheapest rate has been expedia at
$85 per night, then the Mirage's web site was charging $99 a night.
I got the room for $79 per night by calling the reservations line, AND that
included an upgrade to a "view" room that would have cost an additional $20 - 40 per NIGHT; FOR EXAMPLE, the $79 room
was actually $99 for a bare minimum room with no special view, but for the pool view or volcano room it would have been $119 a night. WE got it for $79
plus some other free little perks like breakfast buffets, et cet.
So we were quite happy with that deal.
Glad we called direct.
