In Denver and wanting to ski on New Year's Eve
 

Hello,
My wife and I will be in Denver for the New Year's Weekend. We would like to ski on the 31st since it's our only available day (Broncos on the 1st!). What are not planning on renting a car on a trip so we would like to check travel logistics for getting to the ski area from downtown Denver. We would also like to check on the price of lift tickets and we need to rent all ski equipment. We will have the necessary clothing. Also, I am an average skier from the East Coast. My wife is pretty good. I'm sure with it being a Saturday and it being New Year's Eve it will be crowded. Since we only have one day available is it worth our while to do this given the crowds? Is so, what resort area would be best? I was thinking Keystone but that's just a guess. Never been out there so forgive my ignorance. Any other input would be greatly appreciated!

Take a look at Copper Mountain also. Often there are discount tix at King Soopers, but maybe not on a holiday. Nice area, easy in and out to get to the slopes from parking.

Consider Loveland. Closest to Denver and less expensive than the big resorts.

Unfortunately the Winter Park Ski train does not make its first trip until January 7.
The California Zephyr does leave Denver shortly after 8AM when it is on time (often late in winter).

Thanks so much for the input. I think it will be cheaper just to rent a car a drive up. We are thinking of the keystone area since we can drive up early and rent equipment. I have limited skiing experience but my wife is pretty good. Does this area have good options for beginners? I don't know if I will have time to take a lesson or not since this only a one day opportunity. Thanks for all the help!

Make sure the car rental company knows where you're going so that you get at a minimum snow tires and also - preferably - AWD or 4WD.

Allow LOTS of time to come back, hours! - the 70 is famously congested beyond belief on those kinds of days.
