Kam: Alcatraz as a homeless shelter? Great idea! But is it big enough? Last time I was in San Francisco I stumbled over the homeless used condom somebody must have disgarded not realizing it could choke a bird or sea animal. Then again I almost stumbled over that toddler in Chinatown plopped on the curb to urinate by it's ?parent. It would be narrow-minded to blame all the problems on the homeless. The not-homeless are just as bad.

Alohaaaa,
Actually, I saw former SF Supv., the Rev Amos Brown on TV last week addressing this very subject.

The new plan (actually an old one recycled from the 70-80s) that they bring up a few ships from the Navy's Mothball Fleet and dock them at a few of the "less than busy piers" south of Pac Bell Park and let the homeless stay there for free.

Sounds good in theory and the intentions are good, but...

All I know is I'll still continue to go to SF....To each their own.
Kal

As long as you have that Nigger mayor and the liberal commies running SF, you will continue to have huge problems. Enough said.
|
Um.... I think too much said.

Are you channeling someone from the McCarthy era?

SF is one of the greatest travel destinations in the USA. I go every year and fall in love all over again each time.

The problem of the "homeless" is not that they lack a place to live. If you set them up with living quarters their troubles would continue or get worse. Their problem is they are drug addicts and alcoholics. It just seems SF has a disproportionately high share of them, much more so than in NYC, where I work. I don't know about SF, but in NYC the gov't no longer coddles them and pretends they're normal people who have fallen on hard times when in reality they are mentally ill.

Jim, your generalizations are astounding.

San Francisco has become one of the dumpiest cities in the U.S. I can't understand why anyone would want to visit such a place. In addition to the SF being a run down city, the restaurants are overpriced and overrated, the culture is second rate, and the weather in the summer stinks.
|
I bet the people in Boston, DC and NYC would kill for SF's "stinky summer weather". Looks like it's another stinky 72 degrees in the middle of summer.

Paddy it was people just like you that I was refering to!!! For your information my last name happends to be FISCHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For Bill the Pac Bell guy: I took my dogs to the vets on El Camino in Palo Alto this morning at 9:00 am. Guess what I saw? Three homeless people walking along by Palo Alto H.S. But, does that mean that Palo Alto is a high crime city to be avoided by the tourists? I don't think so. These folks are not dangerous. Not pretty, but not dangerous. If you live in the city, you have the vote to clear up this mess, I don't, but please don't blame the homeless themselves. They are existing as best they can.
