In December, Marriott Kauai or Maui?
 

Has any one been to either of these hotels? What was your experience? How is the beach at these hotels? What is the average temp Kauai or Maui during Christmas week? Sunny? Rainy? When is the best time to go to Kuauai? How about Maui? We love sun and heat, but really looking for a time when it's in the 80's and sunny and the water is warm enough to swim.

WE WENT IN JUNE, THE WEATHER WAS GREAT,IN THE 80'S. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE HYATT IN KAUAI,OUTSTANDING RESORT,POOL'S AND BEACH, THE MARRIOTT IN MAUI IS GOOD AND NEXT TO THE HYATT, WHICH HAS A NICER RESORT,POOL,ETC. <BR>KAUAI,IS BEAUTIFUL & QUIET.MUST TAKE THE HELI-FLIGHT.MAUI,MORE ACTION,SHOPPING & NIGHTLIFE.

The average temperature in Hawaiian Islands around Christmas is about 81 degrees/ 67 degrees at night. The warmest, sunniest part of Kauai is the southern part of the island where the Marriott is. Haven't stayed at that hotel but hear really good things about it. <BR> <BR>As for the Maui Marriott, it's being renovated, and can't remember if that will be done by Christmas or not. That's a great resort area, but Wailea, on the southern part of Maui, will be the driest, sunniest and warmest that time of year. <BR> <BR>This is not much help, but I think you'd have a ball either place. Kauai might be a little less crowded than Maui, but that's really high season there. So if you seriously want to be either place for Christmas, you'd probably need to reserve soon! <BR> <BR>Good luck! <BR> <BR>Lani

Not that knowledgeable on weather patterns but know that during that time the weather on the south side of Kauai is drier than the north side. The marriott here is actually not on Poipu(south side) but in Lihue near the airport. Nice property, but far removed from everything else and in a city/town that is not attractive. Hyatt is by far superior. On Maui, Wailea is the warmer, drier area and I would recommend you look into the Renaisance Wailea...there have been a ton of comments about a lot of these properties...just do a search for more info.

Aloha Yvonne, we've stayed at both- Kauai once and Maui 7 times. Kauai property is beautiful but in the wrong place. It's actually on a bay which used to be a crusie ship harbor. In December, I definatly recommend the Poipu area. The Hyatt is the nicest hotel on the island. As for Maui, I beleive the renovations are scheduled to be completed in the fall. Call the hotel derectly, they will answer your questions. The beach in front is fine at the Marriott. We like the Kaanapali area more than Wailea but that is a personal opinion. <BR>Bottom line is that if you are in Hawaii next Christmas, it will be paradise. You will be able to swim and I believe the temp will be pretty close to 80. <BR> <BR>Bart

Yvonne, <BR> <BR>I agree with Annemarie & Bart. Unless you're getting some kind of unbelievable deal at the Marriott, I would stay in Poipu. The Marriott is on the southeastern part of Kauai but it's not nearly as pretty as Poipu. In fact, I have stayed on the East Coast (Kapaa) once and would never do it again. The restaurants are good there, and I love Lydgate Beach, but otherwise, it can't hold a candle to Poipu, and certainly, not to the North Shore (in summer). <BR> <BR>Whatever you decide, have a good trip!
