i'm visiting NY and need a little help?
I'm in the process of sorting out a trip to New York to visit family in larchmont, i want to do some serious shopping and sightseeing, could anyone tell me how far from NY larchmont is? And how well will my english accent go down over there? this is my first trip hehe,
cheers guys Dean |
The town of Larchmont, NY lies just north of NYC in Westchester County. It is a 35min ride on the Metro North RR into Manhattan.
http://mta.info/mnr/index.html Your English accent will go over just fine here. NY is the grand melting pot of the US, with folks from every corner of the globe. Americans across the board are very fond of our English friends. |
A lot of us are softies for an English accent!

Metro north straight to grand central. Very easy to do - runs very late...
We are all a sucker for a british accent. Enjoy! |
For serious shopping, there's a popular discount mall called Woodbury Commons that would be closer to Larchmont than from NYC. You'd probably need a car to get there though (from the city there's bus service).
http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7 You'll also find some shopping in White Plains, not far from Larchmont. There's a big mall with a Macy's there http://www.galleriaatwhiteplains.com...c/node1792.jsp but Macy's in NYC gives tourists from out of town an 11% discount if you register at their customer service desk. (Bloomingdales too). Not sure the suburban stores will do that. |
cheers guys, we have a metro service over here too arounds leeds city so i shouldnt be that lost, sounds easy enough. See you all soon!

I think you're a little confused. MetroNorth is not the subway. It's a commuter train from the suburbs (Larchmont is a suburb north of NYC) that takes you to Grand Central Station. From there you need to walk, take the bus or the subway (there are both up/downtown and crosstown lines of the latter under Grand Central.)
Agree if you want discounts go to Woodbury Common (about an hour north of the city - but a different direction from Larchmont) for more mid/upscale discounters - some designers. For lower/midscale discount malls you can take the bus to Secaucus in New Jersey - perhaps half an hour from the Port Authority bus terminal. If you tell us what your serious shopping is for (designers, moderate department stores, trendy boutiques) people can help aim you in the right direction. |
