Illinios to Bellingham , WA
Hello all
Traveling for central IL to Bellingham , WA towing a 24' cargo trailer. Looking for any ideas on the flattest route. Time is not a big issue. Thanks |
Your stops for the night are Mitchell SD (Corn Palace), Billings MT and Coeur d' Alene ID.
If there is a storm coming over the Rockies when you get to Billings, wait there until it is done snowing and the crews have the chance to clear I-90. Make sure your trailer is properly loaded with a tongue weight of 10-15% of the total trailer weight. How soon is this trip happening? Can it wait until late March? |
Trip will be in july.
Do you think going thru Utah would be any less elevation gain. I'm trying to avoid as many steep mountain passes as possible. We will have 3 weeks to make the trip , so i'm open to any route. We are catching the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry in Bellingham. We plan to get to the area by the ferry a week early , and spend the time around Bellingham. We will be using campgrounds to stay at during the trip and in Bellingham. Sorry for the lack of info on the first post. |
The highest elevation pass on any US Interstate highway is between Cheyenne and Laramie WY. There is a rest area at the top with a bust of Abe Lincoln.
July should be no problem in either case unless you have the trailer overloaded. What is your tow vehicle? Make sure the safety chains don't drag on the pavement. |
Tow vehicle F250 4x4 Superduty with the V10

362 HP and 415 cid is plenty to pull that size trailer.
Use the cruise control at no more than 3mph over the posted speed limit. |
