If you were driving from Texas to New York...
Which route would you take? I've already decided that if we do this, we'd take the scenic route there, and the quick way (mostly highways, and direct) home. My question is, what "scenic" route would you take? Any certain points that are not to be missed? Anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance.
The scenic route we took when I was a kid was South then across Mississippi and into Tex.
So go east and then north when you hit the coast:)Can you tell that I am really good with directions LOL!

I'm sure others will reply with exact highway routes but for scenic - don't miss the Great Smokey Mountains National Park - Blue Ridge Parkway drive through North Carolina/ Virgina areas.

My husband and I drove from Houston to Washington DC about 17 years ago. We went up through East TX, then Arkansas, Memphis, and across Tennessee. We came back via the Smokies, Carolinas and Georgia. (Part of the reason for the southern return route (I-10) was to stop by New Orleans in the morning to pick up beignets and cafe au lait to go.) We also took a trip to the Ozarks from Houson about 6 years ago, and I drove a friend to Charleston one summer.

The best places on those trips were the Ozarks, Hungry Mother State Park in VA (recommended by a friend), Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive, the Smokies, and North Carolina in general.

I don't know how far out of the way Charleston and Williamsburg would be, but they were great stops.

Thanks for those ideas. I've saved them in my "drive to NY" folder!
