If you're coming to San Diego soon...

The San Diego Union ran an article this morning about wildflowers and desert flowers here in San Diego. The fires that we had last Oct have triggered some dormant seeds, so this spring will be a great year to see the desert flowers in Anza Borrego State Park and throughout the county.

Too often, visitors get caught up between “the zoo and Sea World” or some other attraction. While these are fun, much of the best of San Diego is absolutely free; our beaches and our parks. Spring is a great time to come here.

For more info about borrego www.anzaborrego.statepark.org
The little town of Borrego is near the park and has a few cafes and some little shops.

Julian is on the way to Borrego, it's a quaint little mining town.

Other off the beaten track gems include:
If you like art and are on the way to the Wild Animal Park, make a left turn into Kit Carson Park and follow the signs to Queen Califia’s Magic Circle Garden. It’s an art installation by Niki de Saint-Phalle about a quarter of an acre. I’m not sure too many people would want to go out of their way for it but if you’re passing or if you love Niki. Go. It’s free.

Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas is an interesting and lovely garden if you’re a gardener and in the area. I think it’s $10 to get in.

Your tips sound very intriguing. I'll check them out next time we're there. Thanks,

According to my Microsoft Streets and Trips, it would take approximately 2hours 45minutes. From Laguna Beach, you would take I-5 South to Oceanside, then take the 78 east all the way to the Park.
