If you had a full day in Las Vegas to spend any way you wanted...

...before a show at night, what would you do?

I arrive VERY early in the morning and have show tickets at night.

Right now, I think I'm driving out to see the Hoover Dam and then going to Red Rock Canyon.

Headed in to check in at the hotel in mid-afternoon.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Favorites?

I'd hang out at the hotel pool if the weather was nice.

If you have never been to Valley of Fire SP, you could do that instead of Red Rock Canyon. There is a back road on the west side of Lake Mead between Valley of Fire and the Hoover Dam area. After going through the security checkpoint at Hoover dam, drive across the dam to the Arizona side to the second or third parking lot (free). The covered garage on the Nevada side is a bit of a ripoff IMO.
On the way back up from the dam, stop at the parking lot that has a paved path up to the high bridge. There is a good walkway on the high bridge with a great view of the dam.

Thanks tomfuller! I'll do that.

Pool day is the next day. Sunny and highs in the low 80s = sounds pretty good.

From Hoover Dam, loop around Lake Meade to Valley of Fire and back out through to Vegas.

If I had a free day in Vegas I'd do exactly what you've planned - get out of Vegas.

I'll second going to Valley of Fire State Park, either the "back way" from Hoover Dam, or up I15 to Valley of Fire Highway (there's a Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza at the exit - buy water and snacks).

The White Domes trail is not difficult and has some awesome sights, including a slot canyon. Highly recommend it!

Or do Red Rock Canyon combined with Howard Hughes' Spring Mountain Ranch. Read all about Vera Krupp & the Krupp diamond before visiting the ranch.

Note the LV has heavy freeway traffic late afternoons like any large city so allow extra time for driving back in from Hoover Dam or Valley of Fire.

Glad you had a beautiful day! Remember to check the path up to the walkway on the bridge.

On your way back from Valley Of Fire you can stop at the Las Vegas Speedway and perhaps ride in a race car. I think Michael Waltrip owns it. It's about $100.

Dang, ziggy! Sorry i missed that. I need to come back and do that. How much fun!

travlsolo, I drove back to Vegas, checked in (easy via mobile check-in), rested for a bit and then went to the Legends show at the Tropicana. Lots of fun. Played some penny slots on the way out.
