Hey Ted, Sounds like the economy will grow in spite of Bush and his war in Iraq. I wonder how well we would be doing if we didn't have to pay for everything he broke. BTW, looks like the WMDs were an ASAP excuse for a war which should never have been fought. Its really about O I L.

And I'm just a farm boy! Gee Wiz.

National Parks in NYC?

You betcha!

Statue of Liberty
Castle Clinton
Federal Hall
Grant's Tomb

That isn't all of the either. Plenty of National Parks in NYC.

dprahl,

If you start thinking about the NC mountains, you may also want to consider the Tennessee side, around Knoxville, etc. Same mountains, no state income tax. Close enough to slip over to a lower sales tax state for major purchases. I don't live there but it's a beautiful area.

I'd personally pick Colorado since you asked where I'd live in your title (actually I'd pick Europe but you asked about the US). But last I was checking real estate prices in Colorado, it looked like it would would be major bucks.

The Ozarks, as Patrick mentioned, are pleasant too. Now those are my old weekend & camping haunts growing up. Not exactly mountains really (nice rolling forests though) and not very convenient to many national parks. Plenty of space though, national forests, spring fed rivers, wildlife and inexpensive land in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. More caves in that area than anywhere else on earth, if of interest.
