If you could live anywhere in the US?
The american dream: I work from home, can live anywhere with an internet connection. Looking for a little slice of heaven type of place..mountains, national parks, wildlife, some land maybe. 200K or less range. any ideas?

Your budget certainly doesn't allow "anywhere in the US" especially when you want some "land" with it. But friends of mine "retired" to a piece of beautiful land (10 or 20 acres, I'd say)and built a cabin along the national forest area of the Ozarks for a whole lot less than you're talking. It's really pretty spectacular there -- and dirt cheap, if you don't need a lot of civilization.

You don't say how much land...but you can still find houses for under 200k in and around the Sequim ("skwim") community on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Absolutely gorgeous scenery, a national park a short drive away, a herd (actually two) of elk that wander through town, dramatic beaches almost at your doorstep, plus some very good restaurants, shopping, cultural activities about 30 minutes away in Port Townsend (which is a wonderful place to like, but it's difficult to find much under the 200k mark).
Current anomalies (like the rainstorms pounding western WA at the moment), Sequim has one of the most beautiful climates in the U.S. --for about 8 months of the year, it feels like late spring, with lots of sunshine.

dprahl, I have lived and worked around the world and in large American cities. The American Dream came to me in the form of the internet when I was able to move to a rural midwest area where the cost of Everything is so much cheaper. My clients are mostly on the east and west coast, where they are willing to pay higher prices for my services. I live along a beautiful river, two story home, a barn, and on eight acres which cost Much less than your 200K price range. I see deer and other wildlife almost every day. The real estate taxes for my eight acres of heaven are less than my prior home on a tiny lot in suburbia. Check out any area in the mid west or western states. Internet access is available everywhere.

Howver I would recomend ALL or ANY of the above mentioned places.
Won't be long before the state hits a million people!!!
Yikes!
