If you are a fan of Cézanne AND Downton Abbey
The Philadelphia area is the place to visit this summer:

For anyone heading that way, going first to Winterthur (in Wilmington area) and then Longwood Gardens (between Wilmington and Phila.) would be a wonderful counterpoint or addition to the usual 'downtown-plus-historic district' tourist orientation. If you have enough time and like the Wyeths, the Brandywine Museum in Chadds Ford is a small gem in a lovely setting, not far from the Gardens.
I'm so glad I'll have 'til Jan. to get to the Downtown costume show. |

elberko…. I did just that a month ago! Barnes one day, Winterthur the next. If I remember correctly Barnes has the largest collection of Cezannes of any museum. (Or is it Renoirs? There's certainly an abundance of both.) And Winterthur must have more Downton costumes
than the actual cast! But the main attraction for me at Winterthur is the furniture… sigh…. |
Grandma,
The Barnes does have a lot of Cézannes in their permanent collection, but this is a special exhibit--opening in a few days--of even more. ~Liz |
Thank you. I was wondering if they would move pieces from the permanent collection to a special exhibit. Wouldn't that violate the stipulations in Barnes' will? I'll have to do a google -:)
