If staying in Riverwalk area in San Antonio, do you need a car?

Hi -- do you need a car in the Riverwalk area of S.A.? We'd like to drive there, and then just leave the car parked if possible while we go to nearby attractions. I suppose we'd have to drive to get to SeaWorld...

I've been there twice without a car, and it's very easy to get around. Most everything is within walking distance, or you can always hop on the trolley that goes through the city.

I agree with Jon. My last trip, I was there for five days, roamed all over the area using the trolley and tour buses and had a great time without a car. On the last day, I did rent from the downtown AVIS office and drove out through hill country to visit the Johnson Presidential Museum and the seperate Johnson Ranch.

Yes, you will definitely have to drive to Sea World since it is not on the Riverwalk! ;-)

Personally, one of my favorite things to recommend to visitors to San Antone is to do the "Mission Trail" just south of downtown. These are the 5 historic Spanish missions that founded the city. Unfortunately for you, you must have a car to do the trail since it is about 10 miles.

Also, I highly recommend spending a day in one of the Hill Country towns, such as Fredricksburg or Gruene, which will also require a car.

You do not needa car to get where you want to go at the Riverwalk. We were there for a week and walked everywhere! We did do a bus tour of the missions, which was fun. We also took a $90 cab ride to New Braunsfel to visit the Snake Farm! It was an expensive experience but one we still laugh about to this day!

The Riverwalk is awesome. We go every year and we live 2 hours away, i love it on the riverwalk. If you can get to Gruene definitely go which is next to New Braunfels and that is wonderful for river tubing.

Thanks, all. This helps a lot, as it will be our first visit. Any recommendations on a good hotel for a family on or close to the riverwalk that is close to a trolley stop?

The Holiday Inns are really good, there are two or three that are all right there by the trolleys. Do a San Antonio Riverwalk search if you are wondering about different prices. Make sure you specify "riverwalk".
