Identity Theft

someone stole my daughters state id about 4 years ago and she never filed a police report at that time because she did not know any better she was only 15 years old.
Well who ever it was they decided to use her info to get a cable bill and a telephone bill in another state. So we received a letter from a collection agency for these bill last month, when she called the collection agency they told her she needs to make a police report that someone stole her id. so when she went to the police station (suburban police in Illinios) they told her that she could not make a police report 4 years later so is that possible.
She would need the police report to clear her name, what should she do

Sorry for your troubles, but this is a travel forum. Not sure how you happened to find it and decide to post this here.

A lawyer might be able to help or a consumer affairs office in your hometown.

Suggest you post this query on the Lounge... all topics discussed there (doesn't have to be travel related).

You don;t need random advice from strangers. You need an attorney - who should be able to settle this in an hour.
