Ideas of places in Oahu to bring a 5 year old for his birthday

My family of 4 will be going to Hawaii in August. While we are in Oahu (Waikiki), my youngest son will turn 5 years old. Does anyone have any suggestion of a fun place to bring him on his birthday (maybe for lunch, or for play) that will make him feel very special?

Thanks!

Thanks. What are the names of the places that are similar to Chuck E. Cheese? I was thinking more in terms of that, so he can get a balloon, etc...

Definitely Dave & Busters -- just off Ala Moana Boulevard, kitty-corner from Ward Shopping Center.

Tons of stuff to do...very similar to Chucky Cheese.

Sea Life Park (really great for kids)

Children's Discovery Center

Hawaii Adventures Water Park (on west side of Oahu, about 35 minutes from Honolulu)

If your kid knows how to swim fairly decently, on Waikiki Beach there are several good surf instructors that teach kids to surf. The waves are very low, and the instructors will be on the board with them... no worries. For a little guy, that could be quite a kick for his birthday.

Hope this helps.

There are a couple Chuck E Cheeses on the island but not in Waikiki. When my kids were young and we went to Oahu, I took them to Chuck E Cheese (near Pearlride), the Dole Pineapple maze, the Children's Discovery Center, Sea Life Park, Dave & Busters, and Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. Unfortunately none of these are in Waikiki. The closest of these would be Dave & Busters which serves food and has arcade games like Chuck E Cheese but with better food. You could probably bring your own cake and balloons and make all the noise you want. There is also a multi-plex theater in the same complex so maybe you can work in a movie too. There is also a place in the Ala Moana shopping center that has arcade games but doesn't serve food. I think it is called Jungle Fun and is near the escalator on the ground level.

Terrific suggestions above.

For lunch, you might also want to consider Oceanarium at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki which would be a pretty unique Hawaiian birthday experience:

You may be able to call ahead and have a bday message relayed to your son from one of the divers during fish feeding.

Thanks! I think Dave and Busters might be too old for him, but I am sure my husband would like to go there!

Are there any other restaurants that you suggest that might be able to sing happy birthday to him (with a candle on his dessert)? I just wanted something simple like that to help acknowledge his birthday, since he won't be having his usual birthday party at home.
