Uhhhh.... maybe not your cup of tea but there's an interesting off-Broadway production running at the Public Theatre right now. I think Tim Robbins is involved (maybe). It's called "Embedded" and is based on the expereinces of a journalist who was in Iraq in the field with US troops. Its is said to arouse strong reactions from the audience (not always positive/supportive but that's how it goes). It's my impression that they're targeting a younger audience - music by the Clash, Rage Against the Machine etc. Sounds interesting to me - wish I was in NYC so I could see it!

A true American classic -- A Raisin in the Sun.
The Stendahl Syndrome with Richard Thomas and Maria Tucci.
I Am My Own Wife.
Golda's Balcony.

Jumbo, what part if it do you consider to be propaganda?

I'm more interested in the assessment of Tim Robbins being a "second rate" actor.

Jumbo must think the war is going well. Hmmm?tell that to the families of the 4 civilian workers who were killed.

Oh boy, here we go...

As for the contracotrso who were killed. This took place in Fajullah where they hate us by far, the most over there---they were kings of that a terrible country with Saddam in power, and now that he's out, and their dealing with a lot of teed-off Shiites.

That being said, Robbins' play has not gotten good reviews even from the most liberal critics, sorry for redundancy there.

Patrick has supplied a good list. That's just about it for good "serious" plays.
I'm not sure what you read, ramona23, but Embedded did not get very good reviews.

I did not like Embedded at all. I thought it was contrived and manipulating. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of it. All that play seemed to be was a recital of CNN news. They even did a Jessica/Saving Private Ryan story that was ridiculous. The dialogue was almost verbatum Christiane Amanpore reporting. Nothing new offered, same old CNN fare, but with blaring music and redundant dialogue.

Ooops, sorry, ramona23, I read you comment too fast. Ignore my response to you.

Excellent recommendation by Patrick for 'Golda's Balcony'. Tovah Feldshuh is brilliant in the role.
