Ideas for Romantic VA/Mid-Atlantic Getaway
 

Help! I'm trying to plan a relaxing and romantic getaway for May. Both the Clifton Inn and Keswick Hall were already booked and I don't have any other ideas since I'm new to the area. Someone suggested the Williamsburg Inn, but I'm not sure if a 'historic' trip sounds very romantic...and as a general rule, I try to avoid the 'theme park'-atmospheres, but I don't know enough about Williamsburg to say that it isn't worth a try.<BR><BR>Any place that's associated with fine cuisine is a plus since my husband is a foodie/cook!<BR><BR>Thanks.

The Williamsburg Inn is a lovely historic hotel with a great restaurant. I don;t know if it still is, but for a while it was rated 5* by Mobil. Willimsburg itself does not really have a theme park atmosphere, it is just an enclosed area of historic, some restorations and some reproductions. It is a great historic area, and although not what I would consider romantic, the Inn itself might be. Are you wanting to stay right in the heart of Virginia? Could I suggest maybe Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. It's a great beach (quaint and peaceful) and although I have never been there off-season, that might just add to the romance.

May is a beautiful time to visit Williamsburg. The Inn is located in the heart of the restored area which is not at all theme park-y but not exactly a romantic getaway. Think charming walks, gardens, golf, spa, fine dining. Also the College of W&amp;M has its graduation in May (usually Mother's Day) so things are busy and booked.<BR><BR>Since you mentioned Keswick and the Clifton Inn, I would suggest the Inn at Little Washington (five * cuisine and five diamond accommodations), Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michael's MD, or Prospect Hill just outside of Charlottesville. <BR><BR>

Inn at Little Washington is great EXCEPT we just went there for my birthday!! I'll check out the others.

Might want to check with the folks on chowhound.com . The board's organized geographically. If you don't see anything that piques your interest, post a query.

Go a little farther north and try the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels Maryland on the Eastern Shore. First class accomodations and dining. There should be reviews online if you need other input.<BR><BR>http://www.perrycabin.com<BR><BR>K.

We have stayed frequently at the Ashby Inn located in Paris, VA (located near Middleburg). Accommodations in &quot;The Schoolhouse&quot; are lovely. The inn also has a terrific restaurant. <BR>www.ashbyinn.com

How about Maryland? We stayed at the Antrim 1844 in Taneytown (near Catoctin Mountains, Camp David)? They have an incredible dinner for their guests, a pool, and a tennis court. You're close to Gettysburg and several state parks. Not sur eabout the pool in May, though. There are reviews in teh Washington Post and Washingtonian. Another option is the L'Auberge Provencale in White Post; unfortunately, they were closed last year when we wanted to go.
