Ideas for Places to Get Married

We're planning to get married this summer in Maine (we have family there). We're looking for a romantic (yet affordable) place that has things around it to do for us and our 40 or so guests to do this. Bar Harbor is out as an option, but we are looking at Boothbay and Camden. Any ideas?

You'll really have to be more specific about what's affordable. There are a number of lovely places along the coast. The Samoset by the Sea in Rockport has beautiful views,an excellent restaurant and nice rooms but I find it pricey - you may not. Any number of B&Bs could work for you also.

You might look at New Harbor, Maine, and get married at the lighthouse at Pemaquid Point. The setting is gorgeous. There is an inn right there that can accommodate your needs but the name escapes me. It very well might be the Inn at Pemaquid Point.

Yes Pemaquid is lovely. However I live in Midcoast in the summer and a resort called Sebasco about an hour north of Portland (outside Bath Maine) does a lovely job for weddings. It has a full resort similar to the Samoset but not as far for people to travel. There are other accomodations around the area that are less expensive options for people to stay if the resort is too pricey. We go to church at a lovely chapel called the Popham chapel that is only open in the season. It is a Congreational Church. Both my girls swear they are getting married there which is why I mention it as an option. Right on a rocky point out of a picture. Watch the Kevin Costner movie Message in a Bottle. It was filmed right there. They say it is in the Carolinas but it is actually Maine.
Good luck.

The Inn near Pemaquid is the Bradley Inn, and it's a PERFECT wedding/honeymoon place. (They do do a lot of weddings.) I've gone back 3 times and just love the place. http://www.bradleyinn.com/inn.htm

I don't know what would be "affordable" for you and your guests, and it's a little late to take over an entire Inn for this coming summer. But perhaps you can find accommodations not too far from Pemaquid (which isn't that far from Boothbay), and have the wedding at the lighthouse and the reception at the Bradley. Or both wedding and reception at the Inn -- there's a lovely gazebo in the garden in front of the Inn (see it on the website). No, I'm not a shill for this place, it's just a favorite with me.

Take a day trip/boat ride on the Balmy Days II out of Boothbay to Monhegan Island. It is beautiful. We saw seals are on the rocks& even a whale .There are some cliffs that are 165 feet above sea level.(great place to eat a packed lunch. Lots of natural beauty. Artist galleries & a few eateries ,bed & breakfasts on the island. No traffic. Travel by foot. Also, there is a Lobster co-op in Boothbay. Great eats. We like the shops in Boothbay. But, after 6pm, the town closed down! Maybe times have changed. But, the storekeepers said they closed early due to lack of summer help.
