Ideas for New York weekend

Celebrating my sons 18th bday in NYC Nov. 8-11. This trip is a surprise and there is not a lot of time between his finding out about it and our going so I cant consult the bday boy.

He will be going to college next fall as a film student and loves all museums and theatre. I bought tix for Spiderman for Sat night (Its his favorite super hero and I know there are mixed reviews about this show) Trying to decide if I should get Friday night broadway tix and try and squeeze in one more for a matinee. Thinking about Big Fish (one of his favorite movies) but any suggestions would be appreciated

Not our first time in NYC and I would like any suggestions about fun things happening that weekend for someone into the arts. We are staying near Central Park but comfortable with the subway

With your son's interests, you should put The Museum of the Moving Image as your #1 priority. You can get there easily from Manhattan on the subway. www.movingimage.us
In addition to the museum, films are shown in their theater.

It's a little bit early to see specific things for that date but get familiar with what is available for New York on www.timeout.com. It list arts and other events and you can sort type and area. It is a very complete listing.

And don't assume "Broadway" is the only great theater in New York. Off-B or Off-Off-B can offer great things and more likely at last minute or at lower cost than the big headline shows on Broadawy.

Thank you HappyTrvlr. I have never heard of that museum and this is just the kind of thing that will make this trip really special!

Thank you laurie_ann. I will checkout timeout as the date draws closer. Good point about the shows. I will start looking at reviews to get a sense of what might be good to see. Great suggestion

We were presently surprised by the Museum of the Moving Image. There are a lot of hands on activities too.
I have friends who regularly visit just to see the films.
