Ideas for Family trip to Santa Fe
 

Would welcome ideas for family trip of four (teens 16 and 14) to Santa Fe in July. Cool places? Sights? And hotel ideas or even home rentals? Planning on 4-5 nights. Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks.

Hike, bike, raft, hot air balloon, ancient ruins, museums, galleries, lots in ABQ too - we have a great zoo and other cool things in ABQ.

Hotel - price range, type of accomodations?

Thanks. Love the outdoors and wildlife. Moderate to + on prices for hotels. Will need to split time between outdoor adventure activities and metro world of shopping. Have never been to Santa Fe-but have traveled a lot on several eco-trips.

Can you be more specific on prices - moderate doesn't tell me much.

Moderate-lets say under $200 a night, ideally 150 range

Is that for 1 room that sleeps 4 or 2 rooms? $150 per room?

Tent Rocks is a good excursion that your teens might enjoy outside Santa Fe. The hiking is very scenic but not arduous. I love Shidoni Foundry for bronze pours, really good sculpture gardens, picnics and glass blowing exhibitions. The museums in Santa Fe are first rate. Even just walking around Santa Fe is interesting.

Thanks for any and all ideas. As for rooms, we are flexible and can do one room or embassy suite type room. Honestly, we have stayed in so many types of rooms and tents etc. Really looking for something that would be fun or a little different. If not that, then convenient. Sorry-to not pin it down more.

As Deb says, Santa Fe will be pricey in July. If you want to enjoy the city on a budget, I'd probably opt for a good deal on a chain hotel that includes breakfast and spend more money on good local New Mexican food, museum fees, and other activities and souvenirs. You will likely only be in your hotel room for showers and sleeping anyway, and there are most chains represented on Cerrillos Road not too far from the plaza where you'll likely spend a lot of time. I'm assuming that you'll have a car.

We stayed at the recently renovated Inn of Santa Fe last September and really enjoyed it. Clean, quiet, with an excellent full breakfast included. It's on Cerrillos Rd right off I-25.

A room for four with two queen beds, if that's acceptable, in July is $129.95 + tax. They also have mini suites available. There is also a computer in the lobby for guests use.

I agree with saige about Tent Rocks. We found it quite interesting and easy to walk through.

I'd rent a house/cabin & start @ vrbo.com. I also look around Taos as it will likely be cheaper (& my personal preference over Santa Fe). GO to Taos Puebla 1st thing in the morning before the tour groups arrive.

4-5 days in Taos might be tough with teens. Just saying...
