Ideas for an afternoon in Albuquerque with preteen boys
We are flying into Albuquerque to tour the SW - we have 3 days to get to the Grand Canyon where we have an overnight permit for backcountry camping. The boys are 11 & 12.
Any recommendations on how to spend an afternoon in Albuquerque?

Highly recommend Sandia Peak Tramway.....www.sandiapeak.com.......Breathtaking.Use to have a restaurant on top, maybe see some hang gliders.Dont be deceived as I was on my first trip. When you park and get your tickets, you look up and think wow it isnt that far up there....I wont say anymore.........

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center might be fun for them. Depending on the day, they often have dances.
Or you could head up to Cochiti and visit the Kashe Katuwe Tent Rocks. There are hoodoo like rocks there and a great hiking trail.
The Tinkertown museum is another option.

1) Cliffs Amusement park. It is the "Six Flags" of Albuquerque.
2) Rio Grande Bio Park. It has three parts - zoo, Aquarium and botanical garden. Train interconnects parts.
3) Hinkle Family fun center.
4) Tram ride up sandias. World's longest tramway. Hick 1.5 miles on crest trail to highest point in the Sandia range (10,800 ft)and back to tram.

I would think they would love the Baloon Museum. It is on the same side of town as the Sandia Peak Tramway, so you could stay on that side of town (not far from airport) and easily do both the Balloon Museum and the Tramway in an afternoon.
I love the Pueblo Cultural Center, but the dances are generally only on Saturday, so it depends on when you are in town.
