I've decided to spend a few days in Sequoia/Kings Canyon before heading to Death Valley. Which lodging within the park(s) should I try to focus on?

Thanks for your continued help.

In Death Valley, I recommend the Furnace Creek Ranch over Stovepipe Wells. You can check prices and availability at the NPS Death Valley website. It's right in the middle of the action, near the Furnace Creek Ranger station. It's only about 25 bucks more than Stovepipe Wells.

I was there in 1993, and they didn't even have TV. Now they do. Yay.

Oh. And take an umbrella. For this trip, you can call it a parasol.

Holy cr&p! It's going to be 106* in Death Valley. Plan B: going to head to Point Reyes National Seashore from Kings Canyon.

I would LOVE your recommendations for lodging. If need be, I'll repost as a separate topic. I will go research now.

Many thanks.

You're surprised that it's going to be 106° in June? What part of Death Valley did you miss?

You certainly won't have trouble with high heat in the June Gloom up at Point Reyes. Nor will the glare of starlight likely keep you awake at night.

Have you checked out conditions at Sequoia/KC park? Like most of the Sierras/Cascades, this has been an exceptionally snowy winter and late spring; the NPS says most trails are still under "winter conditions." Have a look here... http://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/trailcond.htm

Hi all! Just finishing up my second day at Sequoia/King's Canyon. Gorgeous! Great weather, beautiful hiking, and, so far, 6 deer, 1 black bear, 1 beaver and chipmunks too numerous to count! Of course I have the pictures (and sore knees) to prove it all!

Sitting here with the map trying to figure out what's next...
