Iberville Suites/New Orleans

We just came back from a wonderful stay in New Orleans--with the exception of our first night stay at the Iberville Suites. We were very disappointed in the quality of the room and we subsequently changed hotels. There were stains on the chairs, mold around the bathtub & mildewed wallpaper in the bathroom.
We were also told that the breakfast ended at 10:00. We were not told, however, that they start to take the food away at 9:45, so when we arrived at breakfast, there was nothing left to eat.
Overall very disappointing, and although it shares staff with The Ritz Carlton, it bares no resemblance whatsoever to them.

You're right---had the same experience.
Very disappointing. Staff seemed nice enough but the room was below par and noisy.

Oh great - we have reservations at the Iberville in December. I had read some many good things about it, any suggestions where two couples in their early 30's should stay? Looking for some NOLA feel near or in the quarter that has decent rates. Thanks

Catherine Nov 21st, 2002 02:29 PM

So on the basis of your experiences would you advise me to cancel our reservations, and seek an alternative hotel?

Was the breakfast itself any good?

Thanks
Dawn Nov 21st, 2002 02:48 PM

Not sure what other hotels to recommend.
We switched to the Maison Orleans which is right next door to the Iberville and it was outstanding..but it is generally pricier.
I can't give an opinion about Iberville's breakfast because when we got down there, aside from some cold cereal, there was nothing left except for several empty chafing dishes which I assume had eggs, bacon etc.

Dawn and Michael,

When you complained about your rooms what steps did the Iberville suites take to address the problem?

Sorry to keep on asking these questions, just want to make sure they are crooks before I lose my deposit!
Dawn,
My experience was so positive at the Iberville Suites. Did they even offer to switch your room? Maybe it was the particular room you were given. I would be interested to hear if they tried to make ammends.

We're early risers, so the timing on breakfast was not a problem.

Don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch. You can look to the internet to find a bad review of ANY hotel if you look long enough. I think anyone should take into consideration the sum total of ALL postings instead of taking one as the gospel. Most of the postings with regards to the Iberville Suites on this board have been positive ones. Many from what appear to be intelligent, well-traveled individuals.

Jeff

Dear Jeff,

I agree with you that most of the postings about the iberville suites have been positive, but these trip reports tend to date from a year back or so. And a year can bring in a lot of changes in the quality of a hotel. So whilst I wouldn't cancel my reservation on the basis of one posting, it would be silly not to have a few qualms.

For me the really telling thing is how the hotel deals with the problem. Whether they graciously offer to swop your room, if it is substandard etc.

Catherine,

This place is owned and operated by the Ritz-Carlton. Come on, how bad can it be, other than being a year older?

Jeff

Has anyone besides Dawn stayed at the Iverville Suites in the last month? If so your experice please.

Stay at the Chateau Sonesta - 4 star.
Use Hotels.com. I have an average rate of 99.99 for 4 days (Dec. 27, leaving Dec. 31). I've stayed here before and the rooms/lobby are all great. The staff is friendly also and the hotel has one side right on Bourbon St.

Hi,
We stayed at the Iberville Suites, for 3 nights.

The rooms are lovely. They have upmarket furnishings, and an antique feel. It's nice to have a really separate seating area from the bedroom.

The lobby is decorated expensively and looks great.

On the downside, the fact that they have only one person on at reception most of the time does not translate into good service. The breakfast is chaotic if you arrive between 9 and 10, though quite nice if you arrive earlier.
Anyone stay here lately? Comments please. Thinking of a weekend this summer for 129 bucks. thanks.

We stayed 4 days back in April of this year. Husband thought the bedroom was too small but he likes lots of room between bed and wall. Shares the building with the Ritz Carlton hince the strange elevator layout. The breakfast was good, staff friendly and the location is central. Do eat at GW Fins, great fish, service and atmosphere.

Dan Jun 24th, 2003 04:05 AM

$129 is a little higher than the $99 promo this hotel often runs during the slow summer months.

Thanks, yes I have never tried GW Fins but it is on my list of rests. to visit. We have tried several through the years by eating at our favorites one night and then a new one the next. Yep, Ive seen the 99$ b4 but my other option was the Embassy Suites down close to the River Market. Still posting some good prices on Hoteldiscounts so I'll wait one more night to see if something better comes up. For now looks like Iberville S. or will wait on into the summer.
