I95: philly, pa to savannah, ga
 

I am planning a trip south in October (I like to plan early.) I am planning on driving from philly with the ultimate goal of savannah (maybe alittle further south if time allows) then back home to philly. I have a total of 12 days to do the trip. I want to spen 3-4 days in Savannah. Not sure where else to stop along the way. Planning on doing a few other over night stops (just not sure where) to break up the driving. I have been to myrtle beach and south of the border so I don't think that will be one of them. I am not into the beach, crazy party scenes, or theme parks. I do however love hisory, haunted stuff (More for the history, then the scary attraction Does that makes sense? but I do like to be freaked out), weird type things (biggest ball of yarn type stuff) you know just for fun. Any suggestion on stops along the way? maybe places to eat along the way?? I have tried roadside america and I didn't care for the site itself hoping this works out better..

Wilmington, NC, on south to Brookgreen Gardens, Pawley's Island, Georgetown, some of the amall plantations between Georgetown and Charleston--and of COURSE, Charleston, even more than Savannah.

If it came down time and getting the most out of my trip I would rent a car for the drive down and fly home so I could take my liesure time

The #98 Amtrak Palmetto leaves PHL every morning about 7:30AM.
It arrives in Savannah shortly after 9PM. One coach seat will cost you $124 if you buy early. There are two "Silver Service" trains as well that stop in Savannah if their schedules work better for you.

Have you done Baltimore, DC, and Mount Vernon already?

Richmond, VA, has great history, an incredible free art museum, and is a major foodie and craft beer center.

Williamsburg, Norfolk, Outer Banks.

Inland to US 17 and down the NC coast through New Bern, Beaufort, Wilmington.

Skip Myrtle Beach for Georgetown and Charleston, SC. More great food.

Beaufort, SC (still on 17) and then Savannah.

Without DC and Baltimore, this would be a great 12 day trip, especially if you fly or take the train home to Philly.

You could fly to Charleston, rent a car and explore that area, Savannah,Tybee Island and St Augustine. If you can return car in Jacksonville and fly home from there. St Augustine is very historical and has some great haunted tours.
