I70 or I80 IL to Denver?

I am driving to Denver starting 3 AM Wednesday, June 13th, from Bloomington IL. The distance via either I70 or I80 is almost exactly the same; which is the better route from a construction delay perspective?

I haven't done 80, but 70 is pretty much a breeze.

From Bloomington, I'll take I-74/80/76. I-70 means getting down to St. Louis and then go through KC. Less traffic to deal with on the I-80 route.

I've driven them both multiple times. Both routes suck as far as scenery is concerned....flip a coin. At least on I-70 you DO get to see a city or two! LOL.

Last time I went from KC to Bloomington, I took I-35 up to Cameron and US 36 across to Springfield. It is faster (because you avoid the back ups I seem to always find in St. Louis) and more pleasant than the I-70/St. Louis route.

Staying on US 36 across Kansas wouldn't be bad either. Although it is two lanes in most of Kansas, it is a nice wide road, most of it 65 MPH, light traffic, with easy passing.

In terms of construction delays, seems to me it would be hard for anyone to tell you which is best unless they've driven both very recently. Your best bet might be to check web sites or call 800 numbers for each state. Unless there's a number you can call for all of 70 and one for all of 80.
