I will very soon stop boring you with questions about my holiday in New York and New England as it starts this week - but here's a few final questions for old time's sake
1. Our UA flight is due to arrive at terminal 7 JFK on Thursday at 3.55pm.
The flight seems to usually get in on time or early (apart from the one that spent a day in Ireland last week after a bomb scare). What is a reasonable expectation for how long it will be before we are thru all the hoops and ready to leave the airport?
2. If we take a taxi to Upper East Side Manhattan at this time will we be hitting the rush hour? I am thinking that at this time of day it could be as quick to take the shuttle bus and the subway with one change.
3. We are staying on East 93 Street and probably won't venture far our first evening. Which direction are we best off heading if we walk in search of reasonably priced food?
4. We will be taking the train to Boston on the Sunday morning. I have not found a good website yet with bus routes. Is there one or does anyone know whether you can get from where we are, East 93 Street, to Penn Station easily by bus. How long might that take on a Sunday morning?
5 Our train arrives from Washington at 9.45am and departs at 10am. We have ticket reservations but not reserved seats. Are we likely to be struggling to get a seat? Will we be restricted to a few carriages of a very long train?

1) I think you should be able to get through customs in 30 minutes or less. It just depends how many flights are dumping passengers at that time.
2) If you take a taxi you are entering the city at rush hour. But you are heading into the city, while most of the traffic is heading out. I would take the subway if you felt you were on a tight budget and only if you are very hardy in health and attitude.
3)I would suggest walking down to 86th Street and Lexington and looking around. There are several diners and a few fast food places around that area. If you walk East on 86th (toward the river, away from 5th Avenue) you can find some nice eating places.
4) You can find NYC bus routes at www.mta.info. If you are taking a city bus from East 93 Street to Penn Station, take the M4 on 5th Avenue as it goes directly to Penn Station. They usually start on the hour and run every 12 minutes (ex: 10, 10:12, 10:24). The ride should take about 35-40 minutes.

After living here for over 12 years, I'm still amazed how much I don't know about this tiny island. I read posts on here from visitors and think "Wow, I didn't know that was in my backyard."
