I want to shop till I drop in New Orleans! Any ideas as to what to buy or where to go?
What are the local items to purchase?
|
Beignet Mix for starters. Then I would head down to Magazine Street and check out the antique stores.

This is pretty vague. You can buy food, art, local crafts, etc etc etc. What do you WANT to purchase?

If you are looking for souveniers and other touristy NOLA stuff, then head to the French Market. You can buy the same stuff they sell on Bourbon and Decatur for a lot less.

If you are interested in antiques, artwork, masks, and so on, Royal St has a lot of shops.

Because you will absolutely fall in love with our food, you must purchase a set (or at least one) of the award-winning River Road Recipes cookbooks. Most ingredients can be easily found anywhere. These books contain treasured family recipes from many of our best south Louisiana cooks. These have also been recommended by many professionals over the years as a must-have in any kitchen. Look for them all over New Orleans.

If you are into jewelry then try Joan Good's in the 800 block of Royal St. She has some wonderful stuff at decent prices plus she is a real Quarter character. She has been there about 30 yrs so has lots of stories. She has a website too, I believe, but her shop is a tiny hole in the wall.
