I need help
Happy Monday everyone!
I'm new to the forum and I would like some help and your opinion! I have an idea to visit every store in a state or region. For example: Visiting every Ikea on the east coast or Going to every amusement park in Florida. Those aren't exact things but similar to my idea. Besides the costs and all of that, do you think that would be ridiculous? I personally would find enjoyment from it. I may even document it via vlog or blog! Let me know what you think! Thanks for taking time from your day to read this. |

As for the OP, the problem I see is that every IKEA (for example) is identical. The amusement parks in Florida have all been done to death, even the less well known ones like Dinosaur World. You need a more unique idea... |

Those were just examples. I definitely don't plan on doing those. Either way thanks for your input. I recently read a article about a guy that apparently went to all of the National Parks but didn't really document it (as far as I know) I just think something like that would cool and fun to do! |
If you said museums, or ballparks, no one would have questioned you... this is a tough crowd...

If/When I get around to planning and doing this I will let everyone know. Probably by returning to this post. I am going to be looking and thinking of more travel goals and search for people or videos of like minded people. If I did every restaurant chain, major zoos, ballparks, etc. I would definitely include things about the city as far as documenting it goes! Visiting every state has always been on my ever growing list of travel goals. I just never focused on visiting every store or restaurant because it was just something I never thought of until now

Sounds like the OP has the "Collector Gene." With luck, the collection will be possible. I remember some years ago a newspaper reporter considered eating at every restaurant in New York City. He discovered that if he ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day going down the restaurant list in the Yellow Pages, so many years would have passed that the list would be totally different.

5 or so years ago, there was a guy who planned to go to every Willamette Valley (Oregon) winery and write about it, calculating that it would take him a year if he went to one every day. But more and more wineries kept opening, he started doubling up, and I'm not sure he ever made it to the ever-receding finish line.
How about breweries? |
OK, try going to Key West and you'll quickly find out who the tough people in this "crowd" really are.

Over several years, I've been to 36 state capitals, seen the capitol building in each of them. Also have been to baseball games for 22 franchises, gone to 9 US National Parks, and seen 16 presidential burial sites (this last partly in conjunction with having visited 9 presidential libraries). Might (or might not) get to all of the baseball franchises and/or see all the capitol buildings before my traveling days are done. Regardless, it's all been a major highlight of my US travel experience.
There are plenty of things for an obsessive collector-type sightseer to see just in the US alone. Personally, I'd pick something more interesting than Walmart or IKEA stores (which strike me as being pretty much "seen one seen them all"), but maybe that's just me. |

Seems like it will be a lot of time and money, so hardly any point picking mundane stuff when there are so many truly interesting, inspiring things to see.
One thing I enjoy is seeing places that were the settings for events or stories that interested me. Lord Nelson is a figure that has fascinated me for a long time. I have read records of the battles, bios, etc. so seeing Cadiz (Battle of Trafalgar), the Islands where he spent time, his tomb and even wax figure and clothes in London, made history, that I already found interesting, really come alive for me. Bath and small English villages brought Austen to life. Seeing childhood homes of famous writers has been interesting. Seeing Carter's boyhood home helped me see why he is the person he is. My DD is interested in seeing places where ancestors have lived. Recently a poster did a trip report on traveling to see a particular artist's work. Can't remember the artist she mentions, but it is titled "Chasing (artist's name)." I thought that was just crazy wonderful! Just saying, chase something wonderful and personal, not just some random thing. |
I think a really talented and observant writer could write about every IKEA in the US--or the world!--in an entertaining way, focusing on their surroundings. I wonder if IKEA would even sponsor such a tour?? Would be good PR for them.

lol. I bet the ikea idea has already done, though probably ironically. You’d probably get quite the following if you did it- one of my friends visited me and the first thing she wanted to do was go to ikea. Not to shop just to see it in person omg.
Anything can be interesting if you really “dig” it. I “collect” museums, bookstores, historic carousels, and hostels. And something that I blame my mother for- Starbucks. Ugh. Don’t even much like Starbucks coffee but the stores themselves can be really unique depending on where they are. Newbe- the same idea occured to me about Walla Walla wineries, but then it occured to me that I get to maybe three a year, and at that rate, it would take me, oh, 40 years to visit all of the ones open currently... I’ve talked to several awesome tourists who make an impressive dent in the list, though. Maybe he did make it! |
Yeah my examples were meh. As far as stores/restaurants go, I would definitely pick something that I think is boring. If I could, I would visit every national park for example. Has it been done before, yes. To me though it's all about my experience and then if I so desire to share me experience then it's all about content and the delivery. I've heard different stories of people doing different things. I wouldn't do all of them, but if it's something that they wanted to do then I applaud them for getting up and doing it!
