I need a suite in DC for my boss

Well my boss has put me in charge of finding him a hotel suite in D.C. within walking distance of the Vietnam Memorial. He and his father and brother will be in D.C. on Aug. 20th and 21st. He would like a suite with two beds and a sofa and his max price is $175.00 Am I going to find something for this $$? Any suggestions? HELP.

resign? tell them you're not a travel agent?

I don't think you're going to find it, sorry to say.

What does he mean by within walking distance? There aren;t really any hotels in the immediate area.

And for that price - I doubt you would get any sort of suite.

Isn;t there some sort of corporate travel agent that could do this?

Ha, well he knows I am on Fodors, alot, even though I try to hide it from him, on the Europe board, and that I do all my travel planning online, so he asked for my help. Besides I love doing it.

So are you saying that this price is too low for what he wants? I went to hotel.com and there is the Washington Suites Georgetown, which says it's a mile from the monuments. The concern is that his father is 86 and probably can't walk, in the heat, too terribly far. I guess they can get taxis if need be. It says he can get a one-bedroom suite for $119. Maybe there is a catch?

Who knows, maybe there will be a little bonus in it for me - :)

Lincoln Suites is just what you're looking for. After selecting room type, check "weekend rate". This hotel is well reviewed on this board (do a search) and is in a very convenient area - two different subway lines are within a few blocks.

It's a 10 block walk to the Vietnam Memorial, about as close any other hotel.

Barb,

Regardless of where your boss and his father end up, they should just plan to take taxis everywhere (including the Vietnam Memorial. If they are staying anywhere downtown, then the taxi fare will always be around $7. To catch a cab FROM the memorials, just walk out to Constitution Avenue.

bardo: I thought we had it with this one, but unfortunately they only offer rooms with two beds. He said he's not too excited about sleeping with his brother or his father. Thanks though.

Barb,

Look here at the Tabard Inn:

http://www.tabardinn.com/tour.htm

Rooms 3, 4 & 11 all have 2 beds plus a couch. Price is just a few dollars over your budget. Metro is 2 blocks away (Dupont station). They'll still want to taxi to the memorials but the hotel is in taxi zone #1 so fare will always be $7.

Not exactly everythig you required in your original post, but pretty darn close.

Wow, what a cool web site!! I would stay there in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, my boss and his father are a little on the conservative side and have picked the Doubletree instead. Blah, Blah, But, thanks for your efforts. Much appreciated.

The State Plaza (E Street & about 21st) is pretty close to the VN Memorial. Don't know about week end rates but you can check into it at http://www.stateplaza.com
