I Just Wondered ?!!

Just a quickie, I often wonder, referring to skiing, What are spring skiing conditions?

Thankyou.

nice specific question you ask there Nic. Let's see, skiing here in Philly isn't so good in the spring, but I hear it's great in British Columbia, Canada. Vermont is hurting during the later months, but much of Colorado is kickin. I hear it's a little warm in Florida.
Sorry for the heavy sarcasm but you've got to be a little more specific.

me

I take that as you don't know then.

Spring skiing in New England can be anything from "hero snow" where the snow is such that you ski better than you actually can, to slushy heavy wet stuff where you must pick up your ski, to large patches of rocks and grass.

Spring skiing in the West means snow that is slushy and heavy (as opposed to the light, winter snow). It also usually means warmer weather, sometimes even in the 70's, and sunny.

Nic, I'll be happy to give you advice on spring skiing, but can you offer some insight on which areas in the US interest you? If you don't know that, then I suggest you go on-line with Skiing Magazine and obtain their skiing round-up - offers a comprehensive look at major sites around the country. Good luck. C

Nic-Out west the snow can be heavy and with a corn-like texture. The best skiing would be first thing in the am, before the sun hits it. And, I have seen people skiing in shorts and bathing suits! :o)

Oh, give him a break. He's probably asking because he's heard ski reports that say "spring skiing" conditions and wonders what, precisely, that means.

Here's what I think it means: wet snow, sometimes slushy and spotty and/or "corn" snow, that clumps up into a pebbly texture, PLUS warm temperatures that permit skiing in much lighter clothing than in the dead of winter. I've seen hotdoggers in shorts careening through some very messy stuff, looking like surfers who got misplaced.

Sorry, JJ, guess I completely duplicated your post, which I swear wasn't there when I first read through the thread. Oh, well.

"Spring Skiing" conditions also mean (at least to my husband) "Pull out the old skiis 'cause you may hit a few rocks!"

To me, spring skiing means enjoying nice weather and getting by with light clothing. Sure, the snow can be icy in the morning and heavy slush in the pm - but I love sitting outdoors at lunch and enjoying the sunshine!!

"I just wondered" why someone who reads this board OFTEN would post such a generic header and make thousands of readers go to it unnecessarily??
