I just read on a website that you could wait two to four hours in line checking in a LGAirport in New York. Is this true?

Nina's experience was the same as mine when I traveled on Sun. 1/5.
I got there @ ^ for a 7am flight. I had already checked in and had a boarding pass via the internet, and had wanted to check my carryon size bags, since I had a tight connection to make. You are supposed to check your luggage in via curbvside if you do internet checkin. Ther must have been 15 people on the curbside line; and because we were told that if you are on a connecting flight this morning, not to use curbside, since the bags wouldn't make it one the plane in time. Since the lines were long at the tkt counter inside, we just decided to carryon our bags. The security line , at 6am on Sun, took 35 mins, so they were already boarding the plane when we got to the gate.
So, if you plan to check bags, I would say you need to allowBE at the airport 1.5 hours before your flight departs, at a minimum.
If you are leaving midtown on a weekday afternoon, I would allow 1 hour just to get to the airport - it can take easily take 40 - 45 mins just to get out of Manhattan!

Gee, Canal_Street_Stinks, I never realized I was part of the "regular clique." Is there a special password? Are there any benefits that I should know about? Or does it just mean I have earned your insults?

To Nyer, I was doing a search on and under the headline , Today on MSN, was a subheadline that said, The Five Worse Airports in America,, and LGA was listed as the number one worse because people on the average have to wait in line two to four hours just to check in their luggage and get their boarding pass. I realize you can't believe everything you read so, that's why I asked the question on this forum. I just checked to see if that same subheadline was there but, it isn't. I guess they change them day to day.

Trisha, did the article give any more details other than saying the Laguardia was the worst with an average 2-4 hour wait for checking bags and getting boarding passes?
I find that figure hard to accept as an AVERAGE. If they said that was a maximum time, then it could be believable. But, an average? That would mean that some passengers would have to spend up to 5-6 hours for their pre-boarding steps. That, I find hard to accept.

I fly in and out of LGA all the time and have never experienced more than a 30 minute wait. That includes checking an not checking bags.

I agree with Howard that there are too many variables to worry about a July flight now.

My husband is always traveling for business and I've never heard him wait that long at LGA.

Flew out right before Xmas from JFK > Sydney, Australia on Qantas. Was thru check-in and security in 15 minutes. I love having 2-3/4 hrs to waste in the terminal before a 25 hr flight.

Will they ever get it right again?
