Don't be so hard on Kim! I, for one, appreciate her sincere and honest assessment of Rochester. And Les, I also believe that Southern California (and Northern), even inland, is far more beautiful than the Finger Lakes AND South Carolina!

You hate it because of Xerox?
|
Haha..didn't mean to cause so much trouble. I did mean to get some pointers of what else to do besides shop. Yes, I know that Rochester isn't as bad as I made it sound...but I prefer other places. And, you were right that I am under 30, but even I know when a city needs to have some more activities for the younger crowd. I also suggest that you do not delete this thread, seeing as I would like some suggestions for more fun. wow.

Kim-Let me get this straight you want us to tell you what to do besides shop? Are you nuts or what??? Obviously, you have no life or you would find plenty to do. Get off your fat lazy ass and join a club, church group, gym or do some volunteer work and quit whining that you don't have anything to do. You are beyond pathetic....

I lived in the Roch, NY, area for over 30 years, from childhood through my middle ages. Why it's a great place: good schools in the burbs, great food, fresh fruits and veggies, cool summer nights, organized, great shopping, beautiful state and local parks, fabulous flowers and trees, good roads, and outside the city, low crime. Lots of ethnic diversity, great music, lots of art, lots of tech. Why it sucks: very conformist and classist, very suburban, you better fit in and belong somewhere, or else! You will be judged for your clothes, possessions, yard, car, etc. The city can be dangerous--we lived in the 19th Ward, and heard gunshots at night, woke up to murders blocks away. The weather can be gray and dismal, very wet. The flat landscape makes it muddy for much of the year. So, if you like to fit in, live in the suburbs, have a good income, live a conservative lifestyle without a lot of individuality, like being indoors a lot, like driving everywhere, well, Rochester is for you. I miss it, but I'll take the northern New England seacoast and Boston over Rochester. At least I'm myself everyday, whether people like it or not, and no one is really noticing, anyway. People look ridiculous here, and no one thinks they are escapees from the R-wing, like they would in Roch, NY. Thank you.

susiecutie: Welcome to Fodors -- before topping a thread it is a good idea to look at the dates . . .
Don't know if you plan ever posting again, but just googling topics and topping them isn't always that helpful, though there are exceptions (not this one however). |
Maybe sometimes these threads come up on Google and the OP doesn't know all the ins and outs of the Fodors site and so didn't look at the date?
susiecutie: good post! Nice to see that part of NY state hasn't changed that much. |
