I give up! Need help finding a Broadwayplay..
I thought I could do it alone..I have spent hours reading reviews. Need recommendations...we've seen the usual favorites like Producers, Phantom..
We like drama, great music, (we are opera lovers) nothing too funky .. I don't think my 80 year old husband wlll like Jersey Boys which I would like so please let me hear what you loved. Only in NY fof a few days.. Thanks |
Would you like a really great drama well acted -- think Long Day's Journey Into Night, for example?
If so, August, Osage County is a must. South Pacific (if you can get tickets)? |
I'm not sure when you're arriving and I second NP's suggestions above.
Add 'Gypsy' to musicals. Also, the following dramas are in previews now, discount tix available and all with what appear to be strong casts: 'A Man for All Seasons' 'Equus' 'All My Sons' |
ditto Neo's & Centralpark's comments. Tickets may be hard for A Man for All Seasons**, however,
All My Sons were reported as slow but may have picked up. ** Frank Langella is fabulous in it |
My choices would be:
Boeing, Boeing A Man for All Seasons Gypsy August: Osage County All of which are excellent and available at a discount: http://www.broadwaybox.com/ |
south pacific if you can get tickets!!
|
No one has mentioned A Tale of Two Cities????...
|
That's because it wasn't treated too kindly by the critics.
|
And because you asked for "great music". While some people have enjoyed Tale of Two Cities, I don't think anyone has referred to it as "great music".
|
Totally agree -- August - Osage County for drama and South Pacific for music. Both are amazing.
|
Gypsy would be my choice, but I'm a Patti LuPone fan.
|
You don't say when you're coming. Pal Joey will be opening in Nov. with some great music.
|
I'll add some of these shows can be gotten on discount using codes on the left column of broadwaybox.com Gypsy and August Osage for ex. I don't remember if you mentioned where you'd finally decided to stay, but South Pacific is actually playing at Lincoln Center if you're staying near there. It's just impossible to get tickets. If you're willing to pay over the face value, a broker like the sold out section of broadwaybox.com or www.applause-tickets.com might have some.
|
Coming Nov. 11 for 3 days.
|
If you really want South Pacific tickets, don't forget about <b>"Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS".</b> You pay twice face value for house seats (Center Orchestra) and the money above and beyond the price of the ticket goes to the AIDS foundation as a charitable donation. So much better than paying scalpers.
They are a wonderful organization to work with. Just phone the number and tell the volunteer what show you'd like to see and what dates you are available. They will check and call you back within a day if they can get the tickets. 212-840-0770, ask for Care Tix. http://broadwaycares.stores.yahoo.net/caretix.html |
My...I am feeling old..I saw Gypsy and South Pacific years and years ago.Not sure I want to see them again.
We have not seen Wicked nor Liion King.Comments?...thanks again for your patience. |
I decided on Osage County...thanks...
|
You made a great choice. I envy you. I talked a friend into seeing it when she went to NYC over Labor Day and she sent me a bouquet in thanks. |
