I do not know what I ate but it was delicious.

Jeepney is Filipino food but with creative twists. We used to eat at Elvie's Turo-Turo until they forgot to pay their taxes-for a few years. Elvie's served the standard but well-prepared and very cheap Filino food. The owners of Jeepney also own Maharlika’s a more upscale Filipino place a few blocks away.

We had two ample dishes

Spicy Filipino Bangers & Mash

Well it is not sausages but their own blend to form a meatloaf. It has an boiled egg in the middle and a fried egg on the top and an extremely thick brown sauce. On the side is Kamote puree which is sweet tuber than makes a perfectmatch. The lunch special includes two tiny lumpia, their version of egg rolls, and a broth for dipping the rice.

The tastes were all different but not conflicting and most interesting.

Bicol Express
Pork shoulder in coconut milk, oil and bagoong sauce with chilis also with the lumpia, broth and rice. Once again the tastes were different but most satisfying.

The server was friendly and over happy and eager to explain everything.

We will return and try other things that are unfamiliar. The reviews say their unique burger with kamote fries is sensational.

That sounds delicious! I haven't tried Filipino food yet, but there are a couple of restaurants here I should investigate.

It was very good Lee Ann. I really do not know Filipino cooking but I enjoyed it. It was reviewed widely and I think it is catching on.

It was fun watching a Filipino chef on Top Chef -

Thanks. Now three people who aren't Filipino know the food.

Sounds delicious.

Sue-We should try it some time when you are in the neighborhood.

You do know that Kamote is just sweet potato, right? So kamote fries = sweet potato fries.

We have a lot of Filipino food near where I live and many of our potlucks at work were catered by some of the secretaries who were Filipino. It definitely is not one of my favorite cuisines.

I did like pancit, if you have a chance to try that.

I enjoyed reading the sister restaurants mission statement. Look forward to Jeepney updating their website to see more.
Thanks!

You do know that Kamote is just sweet potato, right?

It is a white sweet potato and with a greater starch content, at least as served here. And unlike most sweet potatoes, this one was actually sweet.

I used to have pancit on just about every visit to the now closed Elvie's. There's was addictive. I put lemon on the pancit there first before I used it on Italian pasta.

The sister restaurant is a bit more formal, while Jeepney has a greater sense of fun with the food and with the place itself. The owners of both are fairly young.
