I am thinking of San Francisco at the end of March,

what do you think? Weather too wet and cold? Would Napa be a bore at that time of year?
Thank you for any ideas.

Caroline,
March is one of those transitional months in San Francisco. The rainy season is winding down by then, so it might be wet, but definitely not as cold as February. The hills will be green, lots of trees in flower.
I went up to Mendocino for a few days mid-March this year, and it was sunny and warm (65-70 degrees) all along.
You just can't tell. It's not a heavily touristy time of year - I think it's a good choice.

Napa is never a bore. It's the same place all year.

Caroline: In the late 70's/early 80's, I visited my sister in SF every March - I thought it was a great time to visit, weather-wise. It was cool but not cold. I guess I just loved all the green there, as I was coming from Chicago.

Yesx, I AM thinking of it right now too !
Thank you very much. I have been there in the summer and fall, but being in NYC, March can be awful here, so I started to worry about SF being the same.
I have so much reading and research to do, I really thank you for your responses.
San Francisco here I come*<*

It's a great time to go since there's a lot less tourists. Especially in Napa.

I was in San Francisco a couple of years ago during the week with St. Patrick's day and we had great weather the whole week, though we were told by some locals that it had rained for many days in a row before we had arrived. I say don't worry about the weather, I have found that San Francisco can be kind of iffy whatever time of the year that you go, though I must say that I have been there in spring, summer and fall and have always had pretty decent weather.
