The one on the ocean in Melbourne is on the ocean, the other one is not. The Melbourne one is about $161. per night while the other is approx. 230. night. I want the ocean.

Yes, you want the one on the ocean. The Melbourne Hilton is near the airport and has nothing else to recommend it. It's newly remodeled, and is nice, but there isn't really anything near it. It's more for business travelers than vacationers.

The Pineda Inn closed last year and has re-opened as the Conch Key Grille. Haven't been, so can't recommend.

Glad you enjoyed Islands; the grouper is great. Downtown Melbourne (over the Melbourne causeway on 192) has some good casual dining places: Meg O'Malley's and Island Pasta come to mind. Stuart's Bistro on A1A near your hotel is good. But then, what would I know? Since I work in Cocoa Beach, I must be one of Wayne's Cocoa Beach Creeps! ;-)

There is a Hilton and a Radisson directly on the beach, just up the road from us.

We are thinking about the pasta place tonight. Will let you know.

And thanks, RedRock! I think we'll take a drive along A1A South tonight.

We usually are ready to leave for dinner by now, but it was hard to leave our beach umbrella today. Weather still great (sunny and hot) today, but we hear there might be some rain tomorrow. We'll see.

We ended up going to TGI Friday's, which was very good.

Then we decided to drive south on A1A to Sebastian Inlet. It's about a 20-mile drive. The drive was pretty, and at the park we walked out on both piers. There were lots of fishermen there, and it was very windy. There were lots of beautiful views.

However, be aware that if any of you decided to drive this, don't speed! I got a SPEEDING TICKET on the way back to the hotel. I haven't had a speeding ticket in years and years, and it really aggravated me to get this one. The speed limit goes down to 40 at this particular place, and I didn't realize it. So . . . lesson learned.

To Samsaf, when I look at the pictures of the Doubletree I see there are 2 hotels side by side (which I am assuming are both the same Doubletree) does it make any difference which one to make a reservation at? Are they all the same?

I think my daughter is calling today to make reservations.

Samsaf Apr 5th, 2007 11:09 AM

There are 2 buildings, with the pool, deck, restaurant and lobby in the middle. I don't think it would make any difference which building you were in. We are in the north building.

Well we did it, we made our reservaton for July 3rd to the 6th at the Double tree today. My daughter told the guy "She needs an oceanfront room" He said" Who is she" Barb said she is my mother and she is paying for everything. The guy told her "She shall have an oceanfront room" I thought that was so funny.

Can't wait to be there. Save some sun for us please

Samsaf, I just left that area on Tuesday. My parents have lived in Melbourne for 32 years so it is like a second home to me. I stayed at the Hilton Rialto Place- I got it on Priceline for $55 a night and since my primary goal is visiting family, I didn't care about staying on the beach.

granniem, I know you made your reservations, but check out Tuckaway Shores. It is a small motel with 2-room suites and a small kitchen right on the beach in Indialantic. It is very clean, and the location is great. The pool is decent - all the kids that I saw were having a good time. I've stayed there and enjoyed it, and it gets good reviews on tripadvisor.

Samsaf, go up A1A to the Blueberry Muffin for breakfast one day. And we like Bella's for Italian food right in downtown Melbourne. Have fun.

Suki ...thanks for the info. but I am going to keep this place. I am having a new granddaughter being born in Tamarac this June 3rd, so I will be going to Florida at least once a year, and I am sure we will be going to the Cocoa/Melbourne area. I intend to look around when we are get there to see if I can get a better deal. But for right now I feel comfortable. I will look into the other place. Thank yl
