I am in Boston and need help!
 

Well, I am there in my mind anyway. How do I get back home from Boston and go on with things in a normal way when I am constantly thinking about the Red Sox???

I came back from the Fall Foliage tour, and now I'm the Red Sox fan forever! And before that I would never watch a baseball! So, Dan, if you manage to ever get home let me know and I'll follow :)

Dan, you could try to console yourself with the lobstah rolls at Nantucket Cafe in Chapel Hill -- and once in a while they have fried clams that come close enough to remind you what they're supposed to taste like (but I admit, if someone served those clams in the Boston area, they'd probably only get 1/2 whisk).

Very interesting piece today in on-line SI. Key point: the only way Boston was able to beat the Yankees - is by becoming them. (Baby Evil Empire?)

Oh come on NYTRAVELER.....you can buy talent like A-Rod or anybody else, but what Boston put together after trading Garciapara (the most popular Red Sox since Ted Williams) was a team of guys that just love baseball, as they call themselves.."Idiots".. they wore strange hairdos, were sloppy, instead of handshakes they hugged one another..In other words 25 baseball players who supported each other in good times and bad... and George...cannot buy that team spirit.. The Yankees choked...GET OVER IT...It wasn't an accident they beat the St. Louis Cardinals in four straight games.

How to get back home from Boston? I've lived here for all my life - -I'll tell you. Hang around till January when it is so cold you can't even get out of bed. Go to work every day in downtown with 14 inches of filthy slushy snow everywhere. After a few weeks of that - trust me - you'll be ready to go home!!

I think you've missed the point. I'm not suggesting that the RedSox are not a good team or don;t play well together. Just pointing out what SI said - that boston now has all the key elements of the "Evil Empire" - huge total salaries vs other teams, few home-grown players vs traded-for stars (only 2 vs the Yankees 4 or 5) and an intent to continue to buy the title (Boston was the one that had ARod until the league intervened). Sorry if the truth hurts.

Sometimes fate takes a strange turn and A-Rod and I think one other Yankee player the Red Sox wanted did not work out, but instead they picked up two other players that have been giving stellar performances..The new front office are "class" people..and are fan friendly. They have done more to improve Fenway Park than other owners. Did you know they chartered two planes to take front office, ushers, ground keepers, concessionaires, etc. to the games.....Tomorrows parade with up to five million people showing their appreciation. They have been sold out for two years.. and are going to add 10% more seats. The Red Sox are not the bullies the Yankees are...i.e. A-Rod knocking the ball out of the hand of a pitcher..

The Red Sox maybe similar to the Yankees in that they have enough money to compete with the Yankees but that's were the similarity ends. All the money in the world will not buy a World Series. The more money George spends the further from the championship he gets. Its all about putting a team that works well together that wins championships. That's how the Patriots do it and that's how the Red Sox finally did it.

And as far as our home grown players are concerned, I think you are going to see a change there in the next few seasons. Theo has been busy rebuilding the farm system so that we do have more players coming up. Eukalis is just the first example. But we also have outstanding prospects at catcher, shortstop and one or two outfielders down in the minors.

I think this World Series is just the first of many more this century.

Dorgal, been there done that. I lived in Madison, Wisconsin for over 7 years for school and work. Unfortunately they didn't have a baseball team, but I did drive to Milwaukee for games. A couple of stories involving Roger Clemens - The first time I went to a game was on my birthday - what great timing with the Sox in town. Clemens autographed a ball for me, but when he handed it back, the ink smeared badly. I found out Clemens was pitching the next day, so I drove all the way back to Milwaukee after work for the game. As I was buying tickets, I heard over the loud speaker that Roger was being pulled for another pitcher. Great game anyway, but I went to see him pitch.
