I-81 Restaurants?

Will be travelling on I-81 through Pennsylvania and was looking for tips on restaurants not too far off the interstate. Something simple, hopefully not a chain, not fast food, perhaps since this is Pennsylvania, even a nice German-styled restaurant. Thanks.

If you are a member of AAA, you can do search for restaurants along a specified route on their website.

I-81 runs for 230+ miles in PA. You need to be more specific where you might be stopping for food.

Believe it or not I know the bottom half of I-81 pretty well and cannot think of a single restaurant that fits your logical question.

Only one that comes to mind is Antrim House, exit 5 or maybe it's 3??, Greencastle, PA right before the MD border, which is pretty good, but not German. Easy on and off, best feature. I imagine German here means "PA Dutch" for which you need to travel to Lancaster, or towards Allentown.

Cheapbutnice, is Johnny's across from the Enola Shipyards still there? Seems to me I didn't see it last time I went through.

If you cross the river at Harrisburg, and take the first exit, go toward Rte 11-15 south. Follow that road for a couple of miles, past the Enola rail yards, and past the signs for 11-15 again--you're staying on the road along the river.

Within a few blocks, you'll come to three riverside restaurants, almost in a row, on your left. The first two are casual, and the third (which is adjacent to the second,) is a bit more-upscale Italian. You won't go wrong at any of the three.

Good questions, but I THINK that Johnny's has gotten a little rough. bookhall has a good suggestion-my favorite is the GingerbreadMan. The HBG minor league baseball field is nearby. If you don't mind leaving I-81, you may want to consider the Dobbins House in Gettysburg. If time allows you could ten get back to I-81 via Rts. 11/15 from Harpers Ferry.

Try the Country Oven in Linglestown, right outside of Harrisburg. I also second the Dobbin House - we like their spring tavern which is downstairs from the main dining room; however, Gettysburg is 15-20 (?) miles from I-81 but worth the side trip.
