I-75 Lexington to Knoxville

I'm headed to Gatlinburg TN this Friday. According to AAA there are possible/probable construction delays on I-75. Anyone have any advice on an alternate route or are the construction delays not so bad? I expect to be getting to Lexington around noonish.

We went that way about a month ago--on a Monday and back on a Thursday during the day. There was construction in a couple of places, traffic slowed down (slightly), but we never had to wait. Probably depends on what they are doing, but that was our experience.

There really isn't any other way unless you get off 75 and take route 25 through all the little towns.

We drove that way mid-June and there may have been some minor construction but nothing worth avoiding via an alternate route. If you are passing through Corbin, KY around lunch or dinner, Sonny's has the best pulled pork & texas toast!!!

Thanks! You've confirmed what I thought. I didn't really think there was a good way to get around it.

Sara Lou, if you're going to Gatlinburg , TRUST me and take 75 and enter Gatlinburg from the Northeast. If you take the Sevierville exit(411), do NOT take the Pigeon Forge/Dollywood/Gatlinburg turnoff. You will be inching between stoplights in a seeming parking lot full of cars. It took us over 2 hours to get into Gatlinburg. Now, we either take 411 till it hits 416, then go south till you hit 321, or continue the loop on Interstate 40 and get off at exit 440 or 443 and take the backroads in. 321 has been widened and is an excellent road and you won't ruin half of your vacation getting there. Take this from an ol KY girl who has been there many, many times.

Thanks LLindaC! Being the sole driver for an 11 hr drive, the last thing I'll want to do is sit in endless traffic when I arrive!

Agree with Linda about avoiding that stretch if you can. Also, get a map of the streets in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (I think there is one in the Visitor's Guide which is available everywhere--probably on line too) so you can avoid the main drag while you're there. Have a great trip!
