I-70 to Denver

Thought I would start a new thread about Denver. My brother is supposed to fly home from DIA tommorrow. Is I-70 open from Copper to DIA? What are the chances they will get out Saturday afternoon?

I-70 is open along that stretch, but it is icy, slushy or snowpacked in spots. They should have no trouble getting to DIA as long as they leave early enough to make up for the slower speeds they will probably encounter.

On dry pavement that trip can be done in almost 2 hours. If I were them, I'd plan on 4 hours, just to be safe.

Their real problem is going to come when they reach the airport. Airline officials are telling people to come to the airport ONLY if they have a confirmed ticket on a confirmed flight. If they're flying standby - forget it, they're best off staying in the mountains for a few more days. Even if he had a confirmed flight and seat, the storm has disrupted the entire flight schedule enough that that flight may no longer exist. Your brother should check with the airline to see if his flight and seat still actually exist.

Also, it currently takes 1 and 1/2 hours to make it through the security lines.

Interesting about security lines too. I fly to Denver often and bar none, the security there takes longer than any other airport.

Here's kind of a 'secret' about Denver security. There is a second security line leading into Terminal A that's always shorter than the security line in the main terminal. For the 5th busiest airport in the U.S., DIA really needs to add a third security area, IMHO.
