I-15 Las Vegas to San Diego side stops
I will be taking a road trip from Las Vegas to San Diego via I-15 in November. Can anyone tell me any nice stops right off the highway. Keep in mind, I am driving there in one day.

But seriously, although it's only an hour to an hour and a half from SD, there are some wineries in Temecula not far from the freeway.
Between the Cajon Pass and Temecula, you'll not want to get out of your car as you traverse "the other California armpit" - aka the Inland Empire.

There aren't really many "nice" stops, but there are few places you can break up the drive. In Baker we always stop at the Mad Greek Cafe for fresh strawberry shakes and to stretch our legs. Some like to stop at Barstow station to eat at the McDonalds in a train car, but my daughter's favorite lunch stop in either direction is the original Del Taco in Barstow. For some reason, portions here are larger than at any other Del Taco, so order accordingly. We have found one burrito from this DT to be sufficient to feed two.
Then, south of Corona at Temescal
Canyon Road is Tom's Farms. DH can't get within 20 miles of this place without stopping for a burger. I like the Bird's Nest at Tom's Farms. DD usually opts for some pistachios or dried fruit. It's a typical roadside attraction out in the middle of nowhere, the kind I remember from childhood roadtrips. You'll see the signs reminding you to stop as you come close to it. http://www.tomsfarms.com/

Another neat stop, if you're into either 50's memorabelia or cholesteral laden American food is Peggy Sue's 50's Diner, just east of Barstow on I-15, right along the freeway.
It has a large gift shop with all the tacky stuff you'd expect from the 50's. The food is good, too, but probably not too healthy.
Reading back over this, it doesn't sound really inviting but that's from my lack of imagination in describing it, not the place itself. It's a fun stop.

I agree, Del Taco in Barstow is a definite must!! Having vacationed in California from Michigan, this place is more than a treat, its an oasis. They define the term, "biggest bang for your buck". Del Taco is located on the northbound side of I-15 and should be the first exit as you enter Barstow. Can't miss it, it's next to the Taco Bell store.
