Hyatt Regency Cambridge, MA
 

Anyone stay here? Looking for feedback. We are staying for 2 nights, midweek priceline room. Driving up from Cape Cod. Plan on visiting museums (got free passes from local libraries), freedom trail, etc. <BR> <BR>Any suggestions on free/cheap activities for the kids (ages 8 & 14)? Thanks!!

The Hyatt is a nice hotel. HOpefully you'll be lucky and get a room facing the Charles where you'll have some amazing views of Boston! <BR>While not exactly cheap ($20 or so pp) your kids(and you!) will love the Duck Tours (www.bostonducktours.com). If your kids like baseball and the Sox are in town, try and get tix. The cheapest seats are $16. Rent kayaks on the Charles River (not sure of cost though!). For a great view "from above" go to the top of either the John Hancock Tower or the Pru. Havent been up the Hancock, but the Pru is $4 and has a 360 degree view. In Quincy Market/Fanieul Hall there are lots of street performances (clowns, bands etc) that are free to enjoy. There are free concerts and movies at the Hatch Shell. A good resource would be to check out www.boston.com for activities during the few days of your stay. Have a great time!!

My cousin just stayed there and loved it. It's not too convenient to public transportation, but they try to make up for it. They run shuttles around the city (to/from the Museum of Fine Arts for example) and when the shuttle didn't show up and they took a taxi back to the hotel, the hotel reimbursed them for said taxi! <BR> <BR>

Your youngest might like the duck boats in Boston Commons (I think). There's also a park service office right off the freedom trail that gives free guided tours. Ours was wonderul, the ranger did a marvelous job of story telling. Finally, both would probably like the Boston tea party boat & museum (not sure how cheap). Kind of tacky, but all the kids around us REALLY loved it. Have fun!

Ann, where else do they have shuttles to? I may consider staying there, since I will have a car, but take shuttles to and from the sights.

Missy, I'm not certain where else they run shuttles, though I'm sure they at least go into central Boston, and I know for sure they do NOT go to Logan Airport . If you were to contact the hotel directly, they'd probably give you the information. They had a printed schedual for the MFA shuttle, so it's a regular service for Hyatt guests. If you don't mind walking, you can get to a T by crossing the river to Boston University, but there just aren't any T stops in the immediate vacinity of the Hyatt. Your plan to leave the car parked and use their shuttles is excellent.
