Hyatt or Marriott in San Fransicso?

My husband and I will be spending 3-4 nights in San Francisco, and would like to use Hyatt or Marriott points. Any recommendations? We'd like to get good value for our points, so would prefer a nicer property and central location.

I think the location of the Hyatt(s) are better than the Marriott(s). Personally, my preference would be the Hyatt in Union Square. But the other one is near the water so you may like that as well.

We stayed at the Marriott and I liked it a lot because it was right across from Moscone (sp?) center and the Modern Art Museum, but if you'd rather be in Union Square (which isn't that far away, but is more of a tourist area), you might like the Hyatt more. Depends. Both will be nice.

Hi jess, personally I would stay at the Grand Hyatt at Union Square which is on Stockton St., at Post St. Have fun in SF!

Don't know how many point you have accumulated, but the Ritz Carlton is a very nice property in SF.

Union Square area is MORE touristy than the Convention Center (Moscone) area? I'd call it a toss up -- both are surrounded with local business people and shoppers as well as tourists. I would personally choose the Grand Hyatt, but then that's the only one of the three I've actually stayed at.

With the redoing of the Ferry Building, the proximity to Boulevard Restaurant (my favorite), and increasing nice activity along the Embarcadero, I'd really consider the other Hyatt in that area as well.

Do NOT stay at the Marriot Courtyard fishermans wharf / pier 39.

We stayed last year. Rooms are old and you could hear EVERY noise outside!

We have stayed at the Stanford Court, it is a Renaissance Hotel. It is in the middle of everything on Knob Hill. There is a trolly line that runs along the hotel.

We LOVED it and would recommend it. Rooms were comfortable. Beds were awesome.

8-)

Oh, if you are looking for a restaurant and love crabs....eat at the Crab House pier 39!

If you are going to Alcatraz...buy your tickets in ADVANCE. Many times the tours sell out - do not wait until you get there.

If you want to see a show that is off beat but extremely popular...Beach Blanket Babylon! It was awesome!

WE also stayed at the Stanford Court (Marriott Rennassaince).
It was a very nice hotel and we found the location to be convenient and quiet. Ask for an inside room if you don't want to hear the trolley cars ding ding at night. :)

I would also recommend the JW Marriott on Post Street. It used to be the Pan Pacific. I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt many times and thought it was fine but I liked the JW Marriott better. Loved the bathroom so much I took a picture of it so I could show my daughters (and I've never done that before!!). It's a block off Union Square to the west so location is just as good as the Grand Hyatt. The only thing I liked better about the Grand Hyatt was that Starbucks was right across the street. LOL

Yes, if you can use your points at the JW Marriot, jump at the chance. It has a lovely, soaring lobby with two fireplaces. Glass elevators in the center. The bathrooms are marble and chrome with a shower and a soaking tub and even a tiny TV. My favorite hotel in the City.

The JW is the nicest of your choices. The Grand Hyatt is ok as is the Marriott. Do not care for the Hyatt Embarcadaro although I do have a meeting there in March.
