Hyatt Hotel/Newport, RI- dinner?

Has anyone used the hotel's dining room lately? The menu looks very nice and we are staying on Goat Island for an upcoming trip. Although we have reservations at some of our favorite spots, we thought that we might try this hotel restaurant one night.

Hi Emily,
I was in Newport for the first time this past April for a conference, and the Hyatt was so torn up with construction, it was a real pain. In fact, the conference attendees got their rooms for half price because of the muddy parking lots, leaky entryway, and 55 gallon barrels set up in the lobby to catch the leaks.(It was nonstop rain then). It wasn't pretty. I have to say that the food at the conference was wonderful, though, so you may make out okay.
Another restaurant recommendation in Newport is the Red Parrot. You can't go wrong with anything you choose off the menu there.
Also, we went on the trolley tour, and learned a lot about the history of that area. Highly recommended.
Have a great time.

Drove by there yesterday to see how the construction was going....most everything, except for the god-waful parking garage, looks like it was complete (at least on the outside) I plan on meeting some friends at Pineapple's (Their outdoor tiki bar) for sunset tonight, so I'll try and look around inside and see how the renovations are doing on the inside (restaurant included) and post an update.

Thanks folks! I am a local and go to the Red Parrot all the time - love it! I am looking for ideas on Goat Island only because we will be at the marina.

Thanks!

Well, on Goat Island, that's about your only option as the Marina Grille has now closed.

I was at the Hyatt last night, the construction is almost all done, and the new lobby and common areas look great.

There were alot of people at the lobby bar and at the restaurant, so that might be a good sign...but I didn't eat there, sorry.

Go to the legendary Christies and eat and drink outdoors.

EmilyC,
I know you are a regular visitor to Newport so you probably already know this place, but just in case the Rumbline is only one short block away from the other side of the Goat Island Causeway. Deopending on which dock at the Marina you are put, by the time you walk to the Hyatt you are already halfway to the Rhumbline. I am sitting at the airport waiting for a flight to RI right now for a week's vacation. My family has a had a slip at the Goat Island Marine for 12 years, I lament the loss of the Marina Grill; the food wasn't outstanding but it was a nice view eating outside.....

Yes, we love the Rhumbline as well....if I can't get any inof on the Hyatt we may just add that to our list for this trip.

We used to love the clams at the Marina Grille...it was good. The new place in the back is only fair to middlin'....OK for breakfast

"Go to the legendary Christies and eat and drink outdoors."

Andrew,
Sadly, you'll have to first invent a time machine, as the legendary Christie's closed a couple years ago....it's now a private club.

There are still great places to eat and drink by the water, but nothing like the old Christie's.

milemarker0 Jun 23rd, 2008 07:26 AM

Oh, and don't be confused with the Christie's restaurant that they advertise...it's only in the name. Totally different building, different menu, no views, etc...

I didn't know about the change, thats terrible news :(
