Hyatt Embarcadero San Francisco Parking
 

Can anybody please recommend somewhere reasonable and safe to park a car for 5 days close to this hotel.

I assume you mean other than in the hotel's garage, right?

Just stayed there last week. Do get a room with a balcony. Well worthwhile. Great views and very relaxing. I hope you will be there for Saturday Farmer's market at the ferry pier.

Where are you coming in from? If you are close to a BART station you can get an airport/long term parking permit via the BART web site and park there for $5 per day and take the BART to the Market/Spear stop at the Embarcadero. You do not want or need a car in the city. Also, at the aforementioned BART stop you can purchase a MUNI passport for $20 for three days that is good for the cable cars, trolleys and busses.You might get more responses if you posted this under California.

We will be coming into the city from Yosemite and yes we don't want to pay the hotel prices.

I agree with 120aks. Don't bring the car all the way in, park at an outlying BART stop. Where do you go after SF? If you're flying out of SF, turn the car in early.

Thank you for your replies. We ae travelling from Las Vegas to Los Angeles by car so we need to park the car up for 5 days in SF. Can you please give me some advise about which BART station we should use if travelling from Yosemite to SF and also as we are English tourists with a hire car and we will not know the registration of the car until we arrive , do we need to pre-book the BART parking or can we just turn up ?

Can 'tyou do this once you get your car in Las Vegas? Or does the permit get mailed? (I'm thinking maybe you can print it on a computer at your Vegas hotel?)

There are very few overnight parking options in the Embarcadero area, it is mostly geared to commuters. You should check the Embarcadero Center parking costs (not the hotel) --it has overnight parking but I can't remember the rate, maybe $30-35 for 24 hour parking. It may be more economical to drop off the car in SF and rent another one when you leave for LA--run the numbers.

We have checked out the cost of dropping off the car and picking up another and madly it will cost more , not sure how this works out !

When you arrive and pick up your car, you will have the registration and license information, so can't you reserve parking then?

The website is deliberately vague, isn't it! Note that some of the days may be free..ie weekends. You might want to read thru this thread on flyertalk..it may give you answers or a headache...

If you are continuing on south afterwards, I assume you are going to drive via Big Sur etc? In that case it would work out better to use the airport/overnight parking at San Bruno or Millbrae. That will also allow you to drop your luggage (and some of the family) off in San Francisco first and then take the BART or Caltrain back.

If you are getting the car in Las Vegas you will have the license plate number which is what you need for the BART airport/long term parking permit. Most hotels have a computer and printer available for their guests and you order and pay for the permit on line and print it at that time. If you are coming to San Francisco from Yosemite you can take the Interstate 580 and park at the BART garage in Dublin/Pleasanton for $5 per day and buy a round trip ticket from Dublin/Pleasanton to the Embarcadero for $11.10 per person. One word of caution is that the reserved airport/long term parking spots are only held until 10:00 AM so you should get there by 9:30. The airport/long term spots are on the 4th through 7th floors of the garage.These long term permits must be pre-booked.I know this sounds complicated and it may be too much so for someone not familiar with the area and the process so I would recommend you do some research before the trip. Just for the record, the last time we stayed in the city hotel parking was $40 per day.

FWIW, if you go to Millbrae, there is ALWAYS parking available, even though the reserved spots for long-term parking are opened up at 10:00.

Thank you for all this valuable information . Are you saying that there is always airport/long term parking available at Millbrae and there would be no need to book or is it just daily parking ?

Airport/long term parking must be purchased in advance according to the BART web page.

Unless you want to go back and forth to Millbrae and buy a bunch of one-day tickets, I would print out the long term tickets in advance.

If you read thru that flyertalk thread you'll see lots of Q&A on this issue.

Millbrae is where my brother parks when he flys out of town, too. I do think San Bruno is also huge, but Millbrae is more convenient for him.
