we're thinking of staying at the Sea Breeze bed and breakfast in hyannisport. we've never been to the cape and really don't have alot of time to spend there. we'll be there june 11 thanks<BR><BR>

I don't have any suggestions about alternatives, but I've stayed in Hyannis and it's kind of a dump. I suggest looking elsewhere. Anyone knowing good Cape places want to chime in?

The further out you go, the better. Put your arm out in front of you, bend it in; the crook is maybe Chatham, which is charming, but I like to keep going on to Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown.

Craigville Beach, just west of Hyannisport, is the nicest on the Cape (IMO). No surf; you have to go to the lower Cape, i.e. past Chatham, for big waves. The water is truly icy out there, though!<BR><BR>The further out you go, the quieter it gets (until you get to P'town, of course). None of the beaches will be crowded in mid-June but there's always traffic around Hyannis.<BR><BR>I would say Hyannis is "quaint", not "a dump", but everyone has different tastes. I hope someone will have lodging advice for you. I'll mention that my favorite restaurant is Fazio's Trattoria, at the east end of Main Street. <BR><BR>

I would definitely not call Hyannisport a dump. While it is true that its the most "commercialized" part of the island, it is not trashy.<BR><BR>The advantages of Hyannisport are plentiful accomodations at probably the loswest prices. And you're located on the heart of the Cape, allowing you to drive almost anywhere. On top of that, you can catch the ferry to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. <BR><BR>However, if you want to stay in one spot and enjoy some peace/quiet, I'd hit Chatham. It's wonderful.

Hyannis is not a dump--though parts of it are packed with mediocre hotels, motels, touristy places and strip malls. You have to know where to go--there are beautiful mansions and beaches in Hyannisport. Craigville Beach and other beaches on the Nantucket Sound are very nice. Also check out Barnstable, Sandwhich and Yarmouth, and Brwester on the "Bay" side--rt 6a. It is way less commercial. Take a boat ride out of Barmstable harbor and see "Sandy Neck" <BR><BR>Chatham is "charming," with a quaint village and beautiful homes and beaches on the Nantucket sound. It is expensive and more upscale. People can be snobs, so if you are not into that, you may not want to stay too long. Places like Orleans, Wellfleet and Truro are less commercial and have ocean beaches. Go to the Beachcomber in Wellfleet on Ocean View Drive. Its spactacular!! Nauset beach in Orleans also has pretty big waves for that part of the country. Ptown is very crowdedand hard to drive through. Park ASAP. But the ride out there is gorgeous--and a boat ride off the harbor is a must. See race point beaches. There are great resturants there-like Ceros. I know you probably <BR>cant see that much, but good luck.
