Hyannis to NYC
 

I am wondering if anyone can share any information about traveling to NYC from Hyannis .. I know there is a bus .. I did check into flying .. but with Cape Air no longer the air fare is extremely high and travel time is not great .. I wonder if you would share your experience or thoughts on the best way to travel .. or if you think I should drive to Dedham or Providence and take the train .. Please advise .. Thank you !

The bus directly from Hyannis to NYC would undoubtedly be the fastest and cheapest choice.

Many of us have taken Amtrak to NYC; it's comfortable but more expensive than the bus. If you do so, it makes more sense to take it from Providence than from the Route 128 station in Westwood (not Dedham) since although they are equidistant from Hyannis, you'll save time, distance, and probably price on the train if you board in Prov. There's also a bus from Hyannis to Prov.

The limoliner is just a fancy bus; you're not missing anything.

Amtrak is pretty expensive too, so keep that in mind. But New Yorkers typically do not have vacation homes in Cape Cod, so there aren't that many direct services there. The cheapest option would probably be Metro North to and from New Haven and Amtrak to and from Providence (inconvenient and slow, but undoubtedly cheaper than Amtrak alone).

Since Bonanza offers a direct bus, I don't see why anything else is even a serious consideration.

My neighbors here in Nantucket do not fly.

When they go home to NY, they have a car service pick them up at the ferry in Hyannis and drive them to Providence, where they take Amtrak.

The cost of the car service one way is about the cost of the bus round trip.

Anonymous has it right. If you don't want to rent a car and drive, take the bus. It may not be perfect, but it is the best choice.

Doug - Dear Editor, perhaps you think of "New Yorkers" as only people who live in New york City. As such, you are wrong. New York is a very big State with many, many people who own second homes on the Cape. There is no "typical" for us. Much like our neighbors in CT, we enjoy VT, MA, RI and yes Cape Cod!. What we do is drive. Once you know the times of day to avoid and the short cuts, it's no big deal. Be careful about sweeping non-fact based comments.

Seafox, I think since the OP was asking about travel from Hyannis to NYC specifically, Doug's comments about "New Yorkers" meant the city folk....

If Doug will read the back summer editions of The New York Times, he will find articles by E.J.Kahn. Many will concern themselves with the lack of psychiatrists, in Manhatten in August. Many of whom are vacationing in their homes in Wellfleet and Truro!!
