Hwy 101

Any ideas on the traffic and time distance to travel from Seattle to San Francisco 1st of August on Hwy 101?

I can't predict traffic conditions on a day in the future, however this drive will take you along the Oregon Coast and through the redwoods at the height of the tourist season. It could be slow going.

With ideal driving conditions, the 900-mile trip takes 18 hours behind the wheel.

On I-5, the drive is about 800 miles with 13 hours or so behind the wheel.

Sure hope you don't mean to do the entire drive on Aug 1 . . .

I would fly into seattle on sunday and need to be in san francisco on thursday. Would love to drive Hwy 101, see the beauty and do a little stopping spending the nights along the way.

Two longish days or three easy ones. Much depends on where you cut over to the coast. If you want to do the full US101 loop of the Olympic Peninsula, then you should add a day or even two.

In addition, once you're past the main redwood groves (by Garberville CA) you also have the option of cutting out to the actual coast, following California SR1 from Leggett all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. That too, adds some time, but it's very scenic - much nicer than the faster inland US 101.

agree with gardyloo. 3 day trip if you want to see the sights and take in all the beauty. At some point get on hiway 1 for more beauty....

The best views of the ocean from Highway 101 in Oregon are the stretches from Depoe Bay to Florence and from Port Orford to Brookings, and the drive from Brookings to Eureka offers some very good ocean views too.
