Hurricane Worries

I've planned a 1 week vacation for my husband and I to Florida (Miami & Orlando) in August. In reading some of the posts I've learned that August is in the middle of Florida's hurricane season and being from California (and never experiencing such a thing) this worries me. Should I be concerned that this might ruin our vacation?

I would hardly worry about hurricanes. I lived on the coast of North Carolina for 5 years in the early 90's and never saw a hurricane. We had warnings, usually in late September, but that was all warnings. its really hit or miss , but i dont think you should worry. Being from California you have more to worry about, mudslides, riots, power outages

I'm afraid to travel to California because of the earthquakes! At least hurricanes give you pleny of warning. Well, I guess you get used to whatever you live with. IF you happen to hit a hurricane, you could plan on a couple days wash out of your vacation. But there are worse things than being trapped in a candlelit hotel room with your honey for a day or two! (Leave the windows open! :) )

Actually those of us who live in CA do get warnings of the earthquakes. Our dogs run away and we stand in the doorways until the shaking subsides. It's the rolling blackouts where there's no warning.

I live in Kansas and we deal with a lot more tornadoes than Florida does hurricanes....but that doesn't stop people from living here, or driving through on the interstate or anything else that I'm aware of. <BR>All depends on your perspective, I suppose.
